What is Mu Alpha Theta?

Mu Alpha Theta is a National Mathematics Honor Society encompassing over 65,000 students in more than 1,400 schools. The organization provides a method for schools to recognize and encourage those students who enjoy and excel in mathematics. The local and national branches of Mu Alpha Theta organizes annual convention for teachers and students to participate in math-related events and interact with others from across the country while rewarding outstanding extracurricular achievement by offering special awards to both students and their faculty advisors.

Who can join?

The club is open to all students interested. The specific standards set by the national office limit membership to high school students who have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college preparatory mathematics and in addition have completed or are enrolled in a still more advanced course, are eligible for full membership providing their mathematical work was done with distinction. Those who are not eligible for memberships can still join as associate members.

How do I acquire full membership?

According to the Mu Alpha Theta constitution, full membership will be granted to those students who fulfill the following requirements:

• who will have completed 3 high school semesters of college prep courses (Alg 1/Geometry) with a 3.0 GPA by inductions in April 2009. Freshmen are considered associate members until april of their sophomore year.

• who pays the $4.00 annual dues bythe third meeting. A one time induction fee of $6.00 must be paid to the national Mu Alpha Theta club by the third meeting for any Sophomores/Junior/Senior yet to be inducted. All dues are to be paid in the bookstore. Please double check that Mrs. Dulin in the bookstore checks your name off the list when you pay.

• who attend at least 4 of the first 7 meetings scheduled for 2008-2009. Elections and inductions meeting do not count toward the 4.
