you asked, here’s my purpose… I was thinking today
that my stories might need some explanation. Maybe you’ll read one and
ask yourself: What does this person plan to accomplish with these stories?
They’re so weird, and not like the stuff I’ve seen out there for
Christians. Well, I haven’t been random, as it may seem. I had a
specific goal in mind. My stories are meant to
make you think. However, if you don’t want to think about God, you're
likely to find these tales unsettling. I'm a Christian; I'll tell you that up
front. I believe in miracles and in God's direct intervention in our lives. I
have seen it personally every day in my walk with Him. My stories reflect
that. These stories also
reflect some of the inconsistencies I’ve seen in the lives of
Christians like myself. People kill, lie, abuse one another, and experience
pain, fear, loss, and joy -- even people of faith. If you doubt that, check
out David and Bathsheba, Samson and Delilah, Cain and Abel, along with a
dozen other Bible stories -- pick one, any one, and you’ll likely find
this true. My Christians
aren’t all hypocrites, however. Many of them are trying to honor God.
They may get it wrong, but they repent and try again. Moreover, we all know
some who aren’t repentant. It happens... Bad things happen in these
works. The good news is, however, they're going to end well, usually. What
goes on before the miraculous happy endings, though, can be tough to read. I love great Christian
books, and I have read thousands of them – literally. However,
inconsistency among Christians -- where their talk and walk don't always
match -- is a real part of my experience. Why don’t we see this in many
books? Great people who let bad things happen to their kids is a part of my history, as well. Loving hearts with
barbed tongues also co-existed in some of my Christian mentors. I wanted to
express these things in my stories. My purpose was not to
depress people, but to give them encouragement -- that even in households
where it seems that people are incapable of living a genuine Christian
example, kids can grow up to become lovers of holiness and purity. I wanted
to show that when we do our best – even badly, God can and will take up
the slack. It’s not always on our terms or in our time, but it gets
done! It is my hope that some
of you who fell by the wayside of faith because of the inconsistencies and
outright hypocrisy of some of the Christians in your lives might find your
way back to the God who is always there and never fails. I have, and
it’s wonderful. Please enjoy the journey through my stories and feel
encouraged by the characters in each tale. ~Pneuma Sender~ |
