| Our study of Greek and Latin stem words comes from a series called The Word Within the Word by Michael Clay Thompson. We have adopted this program for our Kaleidoscope students because we feel that if students are knowledgeable about the stems, then they will be able to decode words that are not familiar to them. It is hoped that this will increase their vocabulary and assist them with test taking skills such as the SAT in the future. The students are given 25 stems to memorize every other Monday. Students are also given a series of worksheets to complete about the current stems. Students are to make note cards for each new word list to drill with at home and school. Tests are cummulative and are on every other Friday. There is no short cut for learning these stems. The students must simply memorize them. | |||||||||||||||||
