Get To Know Us

Moran Electric has been servicing both commercial customers and residential customers all over New England since 1972.
Please see below to read my feedback on the "About Us" portion of the rubric.
  1. Documentation of the Development Process - The intended purpose behind this website is to provide a clear representation about the services that Moran Electric has to offer. The viewer demographic is going to be mainly 28 to 56 year olds that just want to have a easy to navigate website that gets them the information they need. The design process we challenging because I had to come up with a concept that would not effect the users experience through the website. This process would include titles that would remain consistent throughout the webpage so that the user knows which page they are on. I also created links inside the page itself such as selecting "Moran Electric" on the navigation bar will actively bring you back to the homepage which is the index page. Linkable pages will help the users experience by making it easier to access different kinds of content. The coding process had be interesting to say the least. I have found a way to incorporate CSS sytled code inside my HTML source files which allowed me to just have a HTML file without a seperate CSS styled file. It did make my source code look a bit messy since it was a copy and paste from the original css.
  2. Defense of the Final Product - The typograhpy changed at the last second since I was viewing some google fonts that were available to be tied into my project. I used this href link ("https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Roboto:100,100i,300,300i,400,400i,500,500i,700,700i,900,900i&subset=cyrillic") since this was the font that I believed was the most user friendly looking and I wanted to create a user experience that appears to be inviting. If you look at the "Contact Us" page, I got creative by providing buttons that allows the user to call the phone number that was referenced on that same page and I also created a second button which allows the user to email the support email that is listed in the page. Of course, these are not real numbers or contain a real email address. This feature is strictly used for point of concept purposes only. The main goal of creating this site it make it compatiable with most if not all modern browsers that are currently available. However, when I first developed the site I was having a lot of formatting issue with each different browser. For some reason the CSS borders (what is like to call Blocks) were misplaced and did not look right. I was then able to resolve this over time. I think this webpage is professional and very easy to use because I tried staying close to Shneiderman's "Eight Golden Rules of Interface Design" which includes a consistent design, a way to use links to navigate from page to page, a easy to read font type, and error handling which is not part of this webpage because I did not implement a 404 page becuase it was not required on the rubric. However, the color was selected based on this company being close to the beach and there color scheme is based on the blue color scheme so it made sense to select the color.
  3. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth - I feel that I need to clean up my code more because my HTML source combines css styled code within the HTML source but it looks super messy and hard to read by the functionality is still there. I did this because I thought it would be an easier fix for the other browser that were having issues with the CSS borders that I had implemented in my script. I also feel that I need to practice on my project management because it took some time to develop this page and in reality, this should have taken no longer than a day to complete but I ended up focusing on elements that did not need to be implmented to the final project such as all the contents in the "Contact Us" page. Instead I should have focused on organizing my code and creating a better functionality plan in my development cycle because all I created througout this process if a flowchart to track user navigation and basic dialog content that would apply to the page. Aside from the technical difficulties from this course, If felt like I struggled a lot with the development cycle more than the project itself. I need to stick to the basic functionality and design portion first before diving into any other elements that would require more research to learn how to implement. At the end of the day, this was a great learning experience and I hope you enjoy the site I put together!
