A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is an inclusive term that describes the sum of knowledge within profession of project management. As with other professions such as law, medicine, and accounting, the body of knowledge rests with the practitioners and academics that apply and advance it. The full project management body of knowledge includes knowledge of proven traditional practices that widely applied, as well as knowledge of innovative and advance practices that have seen more limited use, and includes both published and unpublished material.
The PMBOK Guide has become the de facto global standard for project management, and the 1996 edition was approved as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute in September 1999. As a consequence of the expansion of the project management body of knowledge and recommendations for improvements, PMI volunteers, under the project leadership of Cynthia Berg, PMP, stepped forward and updated the PMBOK Guide in 2000.
