In addition to performing at various festivals this summer, Plus One will spend early fall doing back-to-school events for Macy's department stores, followed by a fall tour with Word/Sony Discos' artist Jaci Velasquez.
(NASHVILLE, TN)-143/Atlantic Records' pop male vocal group Plus One is wrapping up their first major label project, The Promise, due for a May 23rd street date. The album boasts such notable producers as 14 time Grammy Award winner David Foster (Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Barbara Streisand), Rodney Jerkins (Whitney Houston, Brian McKnight), and Eric Foster White (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys). The all-star production team will additionally include Buster & Shavoni (Kirk Franklin, God's Property), Bradley Spalter (kci & jojo, Babyface), Dow and Brad (LFO), and Robbie Nevil (Jessica Simpson, Brandy, Monica) The release of The Promise marks the first joint effort from Atlantic and 143 Records and will feature a cutting-edge pop sound with lyrics that remind the listener of God's love and faithfulness. The title cut, co-written by Phil Sillas and Stephanie Lewis, was one of the first ballads recorded by the group and offers the promise of hope to those who feel abandoned by God. Other songs like "Written on My Heart" and "Soul Tattoo" speak of God's ability to change the lives of those who believe in Him. Plus One, comprised of Nathan Walters, Jason Perry, Gabe Combs, Jeremy Mhire and Nate Cole (ages 17-21), have been busy preparing for the release of their debut album with performances at recent events for Vice President Al Gore and several major league sporting events, including games with the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Atlanta Hawks. The band was also recently featured on Teen Magazine Online and plans to perform at Atlanta Fest and the Raggedy Ann Festival in Arcola, IL, as part of their upcoming tour schedule. Plus One will perform at Sam's Place, the Nashville based concert series, at the famed Ryman Auditorium on June 18th.
143 Chairman/Grammy Award Winner David Foster Nabs In-Demand Five-Man Vocal Group; Debut to Release to Christian Retail in Spring 2000 (NASHVILLE, TN)-Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer David Foster, Chairman of 143 Records, joined Atlantic Records Christian Division Vice President and General Manager Barry Landis today in Nashville to announce a newly formed partnership between the labels that will signify 143 Records' entrance into the Christian music market. Foster and Landis announced the signing of five-man vocal group Plus One, whose debut will release jointly from the two labels in spring 2000. Foster, a fourteen-time Grammy Award winner known for his work with such artists as Celine Dion, Brandy and Barbra Streisand, will co-produce Plus One's debut, along with Eric Foster White (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys) and Buster and Shavani (God's Property, Prince of Egypt soundtrack). The project marks Foster's first personal involvement with contemporary Christian music. "I'm thrilled to be partnering with Atlantic and Barry Landis," notes Foster. "Plus One represents everything that should be good and right in this world. I hope that they will respond to the positive feeling that it creates." Comprised of Nathan Walters (age 21), Jason Perry (17), Gabe Combs (19), Jeremy Mhire (19) and Nate Cole (18), Plus One will head into the studio in December to begin work on their freshman release for Atlantic/143 Records. Currently based in Los Angeles, the five-man group has already been busy preparing for the release of their debut with appearances including a performance at a Teen Magazine/Bloomingdale's model search. Plus One also had the unique opportunity to perform for Vice President Al Gore, noted pop artist Olivia Newton-John, and other celebrities at a recent event. After wrapping in the studio, Plus One will spend part of the spring performing at teen fashion and prom events for Macy's West. Plans are underway to secure both summer and fall touring slots. Plus One has readied a new, pop arrangement of the classic "America the Beautiful," produced and arranged by Foster which aired on KIIS-FM last week, when the group was interviewed by syndicated radio host Rick Dees. In preparation for the millennium and the beginning of an election year, a single of "America the Beautiful" is being rushed to radio stations nationwide. Initial interest has already garnered several opportunities for the group at the last Los Angeles Kings home game at The Staples Center, and in mid-January at an Atlanta Hawks game. Foster was recruited by Atlantic Records in 1994 as Vice President, and less than a year later established his first recording label, 143 Records, which was distributed through Atlantic. In 1997, Foster was promoted to Senior Vice President of Warner Music Group and Chairman of 143 Records, which was expanded to become a joint venture between Foster and the music group. In addition to this new venture with Plus One, 143 Records has established hits with Ireland's sibling pop act, The Corrs, country sensation Kevin Sharp, up-and-coming female vocalist Beth Hart, and soundtracks from the motion pictures Message In a Bottle and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Longtime Christian music industry veteran Barry Landis has been involved in various roles with the Warner Music Group for over 10 years, although his background also includes stints with Word Records and Brentwood Music. His marketing plans have sold in excess of 15 million records and have been responsible for more than 50 number one songs. Building upon the Warner Music Group's dedication to the success of contemporary Christian and gospel music, cited by the RIAA as one of the industry's fastest-growing genres, Landis was tapped in early 1999 to form the Christian division of Atlantic Records. With Plus One on the agenda as a priority in 2000, the company is also looking forward to building upon the success of their new and catalog artists, including rap-core band P.O.D. (Payable On Death), Bishop Carlton Pearson, Atlantic/Warner Bros. female rocker Tracy Dawn, and new artist Damita, who will also release her debut in 2000. "This is an awesome opportunity-to be partnering with one of the most talented musical minds of this generation and the incredible staff David has assembled at 143 Records," notes Landis. "I have no doubt that with the talent assembled both on stage and behind the scenes, Plus One is poised to be the breakout artist of the year 2000." undefined undefined More...
