Recent News and Upcoming Performances
I was in Dallas on Saturday to be a guest on the show Not That Late Show, at the New Arts Venue on Exposition Avenue. It's a live show where local artists perform in front of an audience, then have an interview with the show's host.  Each guest gets 15 minutes.  The Dallas Museum of Art is taping the shows for a possible future compilation film.  I played a couple of tunes that the crowd seemed to enjoy, then talked to the host for a while.

I played at the Denise Terrill Charity Golf Open. I played for the participants while they were getting thier cart assignments, then after the rules were read I played while they drove off.  Channell 8 news taped me and there were quite a few people taking pictures.  I did appear on the news for a second or so at the beginning of their report about the golf open.  I played Amazing Grace at the dinner.  Later during the dinner the guest of honor, Gary player, thanked everyone who worked to make the event happen, "especially your piper."  Mr. Player said his grandparents were Fergusons and the pipes hold a dear place for him. I was also photographed for the Plano section of the Sunday Dallas Morning News.   www.deniseterrillclasics.com

9/11/02
9/11 was a busy day for pipers all over, I think.

I started off playing with the Fort Worth Scottish Rite for the United Way Rememberence Day in doewntown Fort Worth.  We accommpanied the color gaurd as it made its way from the court house to the main stage in one of the parking lots downtown.  After we arrived at the main stage, we stood for a while, then there was a moment of silence.  Then we played Amazing Grace.  That part of the ceremony ended and we marched off.

From there I drove to my job in Dallas.  At noon I played for a while at the flags in front of the main building.  There had been an announcement in the company email and quite a few people tyrned out.  I played for a while to give people  the opportunity to come by when they had time.  Not everyone can always make it out at the same time.  Later I received a note from the company president thanking me for playing and declaring that I'm now official Music Director for our company.

I piped in the haggis for a Boy Scout Venture Crew.  There is a crew based in Camp Wisdom in Dallas.  They have a Highland theme and their main activity is blacksmithing.  I have played for this crew twice before at Scout Shows.  They are a very active group and a lot of fun.
May 31, 2003 - Connemara Concervancy concert series.  I've been asked to play for one of their open-air concerts.
5/3/03
The Celtic Music Festival was fun.  Besides the Fort Worth Scottish Rite Pipes and Drums, there were 3 other musical groups - Amberhawk, Eamonn's Kitchen and Threadneedle Street, and Fionna's Highland Dancers. So we had lots of great music.  The turnout was disappointing, though.  We'll need to work on better promotion for next year.
6/2/03
On Saturday I played at the Connemara Nature Conservancy as part of their outdoor concert series.  The turnout was disappointing, but the weather very hot and sunny.  It was probably about 100 degrees.  Nevertheless, the pipes sounded great and stayed in tune for the whole hour.  That bodes well for next week's competition in Arlington at the Texas Scottish Festival.
6/7/03
Solo competition at the Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games in Arlington.  Bob Richardson, my instructor, told me to compete in Grade 2, the second highest amateur grade.  There were only 2 other grade 2 competitors there.  I did well, winning a 1st place , 2-2nds and a 3rd. That combination made me the grade 2 piper of the day.  I was very pleased and surprised and spent the rest of the day carrying my trophy around and daring people to ask me about it.

I played at the Dallas International Festival.  I wandered around and played on request and played at one of the stages for about 20 minutes on Sunday.
11/30/03
I played at the McKinney Dickens Downtown event.  Again, mostly wandering around and playing.  I tried to stay away from the stage so I wouldn't distract from the performances there.  I met quite a few very friendly people and enjoyed trying out some carols on the pipes.

4/3/4
My trip to New York was a blast.  I was there with members of the High Plains Piping Society based in Amarillo, TX.  We arrived on Friday afternoon.  As soon as we got in a few of us changed into kilts and went out to try busking.  We played in front of the CNN building accross from Madison Square Garden.  Someone from CNN came out to film us and we may have been on CNN.  I don't know.  We were too busy to watch tv.  We played in Times Square and a lot of other places, including quite a few bars.  The topper was playing on the observation deck of the Empire state Building one night.  There was a full moon.  It was cold and windy, but the people there were very receptive.  The parade was a lot of fun.  Our group joined forces with the pipe band in front of us.  By the end of the parade I could play the Marine Corp Hymn.  I'm thinking I'll be going back next year to do it all again.
May 19,2005 - Tarrent Co. Police Memorial - With the FortWorth Scottish P&D
5/26/4
I signed up with the Plano Parks and Recreation Department to offer a couple of classes in bagpipes.  One is an Introduction to the Great Highland Bagpipe.  A one-time, free session to show people what the bagpipes are and how they work.  I'll talk a little about their history, and the music.  General information.  The other class will be lessons for beginners.  We'll probably have enough time to start on scales, and not much more.  I already have 4 people signed up for the intro class and 2 for the lessons.  I'm going to expand that class to allow 4.  I'd love it if we could get enough people playing in Plano to have our own band.
