Promote and
encourage business development that is consistent with the rural and
historic character of the town and that contributes to the town tax base.
Nearly 2/3
of survey respondents said that the town should encourage economic
development, that development is a way to bring jobs and lower taxes,
and that it is possible to have economic development and retain the
rural character of the town. 90% of survey respondents say that rural
character is important to them.

Concentrate
development in the Route 9W Corridor. More
than 2/3 of survey respondents said that development should be
concentrated in the Route 9W corridor.

Provide
potential developers with clear expectation for what the community
requires for quality development, including requirements for the
appearance of businesses. More than 80% of
respondents say that appearance of businesses is important, and that
the town should regulate the appearances of businesses.

Promote and
encourage appropriate home based businesses. More
than 80% of survey respondents say that home based businesses should
be encouraged.

Review
administrative processes and improve them as needed to assure that
they are thorough, prompt and efficient. Several officials
interviewed said that having clear and efficient permitting processes
was a key to success in attracting new businesses and helping those
we have to grow. |
