Planet X live at Cafe Paris (Gig #17) with Tommy Mill's Oik Kan. This was probably one of the most fun shows we've had so far, at least for me. The crowd was quite possibly the largest, although it wasn't huge - this time at least someone was there and it was absolutely clear that they all enjoyed the show. We received a great many compliments afterward. The set went great. We even debuted a new song that we wrote this week called "Go". (I haven't even finished writing the lyrics to it yet - but it still worked)
Playing order drama: Originally there were supposed to be three bands, we thought we would be the first of the three - but we were listed as second. Since the band listed as first (Kaleo) didn't show up, we were first anyway and that was fine by us.
The only odd/strange event was that we forgot to bring our set-list. So Mitch wrote it out on a set of paper towels before we started. [Let's just say - that was interesting) Some of the songs are so new that not everyone in the band knows what their called yet, so we kept having these conversations between the songs..."uh...Not like U? Which one is that?" LOL.
All in all, this was a great warm up for our next show at The Boardwalk next week (Nov 5) with The Willknots, which should be rather big. The Willknots are on the verge of being signed, so there may be some industry people at the show, who knows. The show's getting plenty of press {From us, The Willknots and The Boardwalk] and even radio advertisements on 98 Rock, so we expect a lot of people next time.
We're ready.
Flyer Drama: Before the show I went over to a fairly popular local music store called "The Beat". They have a pillar in front of the store where local bands & venues post up their upcomding shows. But when I got there, the entire pillar was covered by ONE big ugly yellow flyer/poster. Y'know how when you drive down the street and you see an abondoned building and their are like 500 copies of the same poster all over it?
That one poster was pretty much it.
So I was like - "Oh, NO you didn't!!!" - because they covered up every flyer/poster by every band in town with that crap. Including all of our flyers for our next month worth of shows. I went immediately to Kinkos and made a really really BIG poster for our Boardwalk show. [It cost $3 and was almost 2 & 1/2' wide by 3' tall] I took it back to "The Beat" and BAAAMMmm, took out four of their posters in one shot. You could still see about 1/4 of each one of them as they essentially became a "frame" for my poster, and if you worked at it, you could still read themt too...that is, you could read them if you skipped from one to the other every couple words. [Hehe]
Anyway my point is this:
Don't be a HOG. Share the space - there's room for everyone.
Page News [No Drama]: Also before the show I did quite a bit of updating on the Web Page. Some things have new names and some things are just plain new.
- The "Fan Club Mailing List" is now simply called the "Newsletter".
- The "Online Community" is now called the "Fan Club".
- The order of links on the Site Map and at the bottom of each page has been shifted around so that the "Starlog" is at the top/first, right after "Main".
- There are now links on the "Gigs" page for fans to submit their own review of our live shows to be posted on the site. [When a review comes in on a particluar show, I will build a unique guestbook for all our shows at that location]
- The Lyrics page has been reorganized so that you can tell which songs are included in our live set.
- The words to our new song "Not LIke U" have been added to the site.
That's all for now...hasta la rocka.
