Stardate 1120.99 [November 20, 1999] Next | Previous
Just two days after our debut Press Club show, we debuted at Virgin Megastore, playing on a removeable stage upstairs in the video section. (Gig #21) I have to say it was pretty wild. The stage had been built by Rod from the band Dementia, who I'd run in at the Press the previous week. He'd warned me that the stage (which comes in various sections) had a tendency to seperate.
He was right.
But that really wasn't a problem until we got our mini mosh pit happening. Sam and Nick, a couple of high school kids who are friends of Darryl's showed up and brought friends of their own. They had even gone out into the Arden Fair mall and tried to get more people to show up before the show. (Right on, guys...that's what we like to see). As a result we had a small but energetic crowd going, and they were really tripping some of our newer, heavier and more grooving songs like Bring Me down and Not LIke U. It was dope. The more energy we threw into the show, the more they gave back - and the more wild we got. As I jumped around though, I (accidentally) stomped on the black light we had in front of Mitch's drums to show off the space-scape artwork and Planet X logo Darryl had painted on it. (We now have a matching set of paintings on the bass drums, guitar and bass speakers. It makes the stage look awesome, we've had them since our last Capitol Garage show.)
It even exploded and sent out of puff of smoke as it shattered, so now we had a show with Pyro. Yeeeehaaa... (I also now owe Rob our tech $35 for the light)
Darryl's new Sovtek amp ran into some problem and wouldn't function. So we had to borrow a guitar amp from Sean (of the opening act, Karousel Thanks again, Sean - You guys put on a great show). The replacement did the trick.
Even Dan, (a former member of "Twist of Fate") was there. He'd cut off all his hair so we didn't recognize him. (And he didn't bother to tell us who he was at first...B-tard.) :) Anyway, he does photography and took some shots of us. He's a hard man to impress, but he said he like us. Thanks, Dan.
This show went and sounded even better than our last. Seems like everybody dug it. We'd tried to setup a consignment deal with Virgin so that our CD would be available there for sale, but ran into some red tape - so when the show was over, we gave away Cd's to Sam, Nick, his friends and of course Dan. It was a fun afternoon all around.
