Planet X returned to the Crossroads, for the second time (Gig #35) with Oil Kan and opening local Woodland band, Throttle. We really like playing at the Crossroads because people actually show up and we don't have to beg them, the place has a capacity of 77 people and it was getting pretty close to that at a few points. They like to PARRTAY in Woodland, which makes sense since they're basically sitting out in the middle of farm land. Several of our friends like juli Swann, were there - even an old friend of mine from Holland, Stephanie who was visiting the states made it to the show.

Throttle was up first and they a definately if a very and quirky band with lyrics like "If-You-see-kay-you, can tell her I'm fine..." They're songs had a lot of variety, and strong punkish elements. They're going to do really well in the Sacramento area, especially at places like Old Ironsides and the Press Club. Punk is big in Sactown. They're a party band, and that's what we we're having.

We were up second. Since there were three bands, we we're a bit rushed setting up and as a result we had some technical problems trying to get the keyboards to sound right, which were a minor distraction but in the end it didn't matter. The songs are plenty strong enough to survive without a little keyboard action - so we just said "damn the silicon chips - full speed rocking ahead". The crowd loved it, and we loved the crowd. Just like at Rejobi the guys broke into an extended hyper-funk jam which allowed them to show off their playing ability. These things can be pretty wild and chaotic - as each player listens to the others to determine the next shift dynamically in the jam, but also exciting as you never know which corner it might turn next. Ron, Mitch and Darryl all took solos, trading the groove back and forth. We finished up with Not Like U which has become our regular closing song.

Oil Kan, was up last and as usually they put all a blistering set. Tommy sounded extra hot tonight. One great thing about Crossroads and Woodland, there isn't a suicide slot, everybody stays and parties all the way 'til the end.

And that's the way it should be.
