    Planet X debuts at Sam's Club 65

This was our first ever show at Club 65, and the advance word we'd gotten was that it was basically a "biker bar". We figured and hoped that that would essentially work in our favor in terms of the crowd being receptive to our sound.

Like the Crossroads (at least when we first played it), Club 65 doesn't have a stage and the bands provide their own P.A. It's a fairly roomy place, broken up into two main rooms, the bar and the pool room. The bands set up in the corner of the pool room near the dart boards.

Our show went pretty well, there were a couple of minor gliches on the new three part harmonies for "Run" which we hadn't completely worked in to being comfortable yet. On the second try, I started playing along with my own vocal line on the keyboards so that we had a "hook" to grab on to, and that seemed to help quite a bit.

We didn't do quite as long a show as we had the previous day at Crossroads, but we did play for about an hour. The crowd response was great - maybe about 50-60 people were there. An old friend who had once done lights for us a the Boardwalk before Mitch joined the band - (we call her "Light-man" Laurie) was even there, but she missed seeing us. I made sure afterward to let everyone there know that we had CD's for sale and that we had a mailing list for people to join and let us inform them of our next show either vie email, phone or postcard.

So it appears that we've finally found a venue with a crowd truly favorable to us within Sacramento. Who'd a thunk it? Now all we have to do is cultivate this - until we start to pack the house.

And as much as they liked us - they really liked Oil Kan, who've been getting better and better at every show we see them - or play with them. With Lance in the band on drums, the rythm section is truly tightening up - I mean, you can *feel* the difference - and they're songs are becoming much more song-like and interesting. They played a bunch of new songs that I hadn't heard them play and each one just kept getting better.

    Nice work guys.

I even went up and sang "Hey Joe" with them. (And this time I even remembered *most* of the words...) Afterward, I got some positive comments from one of the fans, who thought that my bluesy vocals worked better with Oil Kan - than Jonathans or even than it does with PX's harder edges.

I understand what he meant, but I think I'm better off in PX and that they're better off with Jonathon because his voice is truly getting stronger and the combination of his style and that music is more unique and I think interesting than having a bluesy singer - in a bluesy hard rock band would be.

I mean, how often has that already been done, eh?

The same thing is true with PX. We've got something new and certainly special going on here, why become ordinary?

Plus, I think Jonathon's just hitting his stride. I've found myself sitting there listening to him amazed - especially considering where he was a year ago when we first saw and played with Oil kan. Plus the fact that he also plays bass gives him something to focus on while Tommy takes his frequent flights of fancy on lead guitar. A forth member - as lead singer (and make no mistake - Oil Kan has tried many times to have a "lead singer") - would tend to feel like a fifth wheel some of the time. The fact that I play keyboards during many of Darryl's guitar solo's helps minimize that for me, but I also truly enjoy dancing to our songs anyway.

    So - It's all good.
