The biggest problem is always the money! When you own nothing, a worldtrip can end up to be a gruesome struggle. Most countries have the right to ask you how you will be funding your stay there. And believe me if you look sloppy, they will do just that! Most countries also, as said before, want to see a return ticket to be sure you will be leaving their premisses! (A worldticket gives you the advantage you already have the ticket ending in the place where you came from).
Right: Rainbow on Maui, Hawaii.
Right: This is the famous monumentvalley run by Navajo Indians you can take a short tour among those rock formations.
To the right: This is one of many Cliffdwellings which you can visit in the U.S. Most of them can be found in Mesa Verde National park.
Above: Waimanalo beach, Oahu, Hawaii.
Left: Ready for some gruesome temperatures! Its only a short drive from Las Vegas U.S.A. to Death Valley. This spectacular landscape is a must if you are travelling through America. Don't forget your airconditioning!
So the best thing is to have the cash in the bank. Depending on how you want to spend the nights ahead of you, this can either be a lot, or a lot less! We have sold our appartment to be able to do this. But once you've got the dough, you can go! Mind you it set us back some 81.680 euro in the end. Most countries nowadays have those easy ATM's (Automatic Teller Machines) where you can get money with the bankcard you normally use at home.
If at some occasion they don't, always make sure to have a thousand or so dollars in travellerscheques, just to be sure. Once again they will ask you, sometimes already when you're still on the plane, how much money you are carrying. It might seem at least a bit odd, if you are visiting their country with no money at all to spend, so always carry some. If you are planning a world trip always take a creditcard. De sure to apply for one, when you still have your job! They will hardly issue one when you state your monthly income is zilch!
A creditcard is accepted in most places, only use it when necessary, there are a lot of 'copycats' wandering around and before you know it you will have bought an entire e-bay stock without you yourself knowing. Always ask for the "carbon". A creditcard is needed when renting a car or often is asked for as collateral in hotels. For other payments get cash from the machines. Hide your money, there are always people who are whatching!
