| 08-31-04: I'm bumming because I'm can't watch the Amazing Race on Tuesday evenings anymore (conflicting schedules). I hope that Collin's team gets eliminated and am rooting for either Chip & Kim or the bowling Moms to win the Race. I know it's just another reality TV show, but I love seeing the different countries they go through and seeing what they have to go through to get to the next pit stop. 08-26-04: After more than a year on my wish list, the Hero soundtrack has finally made it's way into my collection; I've been playing it all morning and it sounds a lot like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Since Tan Dun scored both films it makes logical sense. I've already seen the Mandarin version of Hero on DVD, so I'll wait a few weeks to see the American release. The costumes and cinematography are a treat, and there are some great fighting sequences with both female and male actors. I'm still trying to locate the music played during the credits. It was because of that music that I really wanted to get this album. I'm disappointed with the tri-fold sheet of token pictures of the actors with minimal information... it just doesn't reflect the visual richness of the movie and lacks the color saturation of the different points of view. Sadly it doesn't even include a picture of the emperor. 08-23-04: I went to Haiku Gardens for the first time on Saturday. Yi Jia and Chen Wei were getting married with the reception being held at Haleiwa Joe's. The wedding was beautiful and the glowing couple didn't let the windward showers dampen the fun. The guests were troopers braving the trek down to the chapel huddled under their umbrellas. I was helping with the photography on a camera without a flash. I blazed through eight rolls of film and hope that the F4 compensated for the lack of adequate light... I even got a shot of a fat green chameleon hanging out amongst the ginger. It's the end of summer and thankfully the School Jam was minimal. I'm drawing a blank for coming up with a special show for the 35th Anniversary Radiothon... Help. I need some ideas. 08-19-04: Well, today's biggest mishap occured two minutes after I'd done heating up my lunch. As I was walking and balancing my hot drink in one hand and my two tiered lunch in the other, the container with the best part of my meal started to slip and slide and splat! there it was all over the stairs. Thankfully no one was around to witness the disaster as today's special is now in the trash can along with all the dozens of paper napkins I had to scoop up the mess with. I could have avoided the whole affair if I'd just taken the extra 5 seconds to make sure the tops were snapped and maybe now I wouldn't be so hungry. I'm dreaming of Star Market's ogo poke w/o the chile peppers. 08-13-04: I only had one caller respond to the O-zone track, and it wasn't very positive. I find the chorus and melody very catchy, but I guess it's too pop for the discerning listener. I'm still deciding whether or not to play it again on the show, after all it's all the craze in Europe and maybe someone who's on vacation in Hawaii will get a dose of home. On to other matters: I want to see HOT's production of The Mikado, but it's too late to catch tonight's show and I won't be able to see Sunday's either. Tony gave me his program and assured me it was a great show, so I'm missing out. I'll also be missing out on the first day of Olympic medals because I'll be in the studio on Sunday! I guess I'll have to find a blank tape and program the VCR. Hope Florida survives the havoc Hurrican Charley's unleashing on them. 08-08-2004: When I'm bored and waiting around in the car, one of the mindless exercises that I utilize is to try and make all the odometer numbers match like a vegas slot machine. Which is why I really like today's date. All I have to do is multiply the 2 and 4 in the year and it's 8 in a row. My order from Amazon.com.de is here! That means I can play my O-zone track, featuring Moldovian yodelling. I can't wait! 08-06-04: Okay, sometimes at work we have too much time on our hands, but I do learn some interesting things. Such as, have you noticed how Hawaiian Sun canned juices are now half an ounce less, but still cost the same? Or how about S & S saimen? They aren't selling 12 packs anymore, but rather 10 packs for the same price... needless to say the Chongs aren't eating S&S anymore. One more interesting tidbit to arm yourself when you go shopping: When they put peanut butter on sale, they also raise the price of bread... this whole conversation came about as we started comparing cooking skills. I have to admit when I go to Safeway, the comparision shopping thing goes out the window... I'm always looking for prices that zoom down using the Safeway card. Well, this next show should be fun, as Yukie and Mike will drop in again and I'm looking forward to playing new Nenes tracks. |
