| Wow, you've been on the air a long time. When are you finishing school? ~Uncle H. I earned my BFA from the UH Art Department... In order to host the radio show, I'd enroll every semester as an unclassified graduate student... paying my student fees and qualifying for a slot at KTUH. All good things must come to pass and the final Planet of Sound session wrapped up at 9 am, Monday, May 28, 2007. There have been a lot of wonderful voices who have put their two cents into the shows over the years, and I thank each and every one of you who have made my time at KTUH fun and memorable. Here's the final playlist. Where do you get all the music that you play? ~Fred The music that I play is culled from past ventures into the riches of KTUH and my own personal library. I love music stores, and I keep my eyes peeled for CDs that look interesting. Everytime I come home from a trip, my luggage is usually crammed with Coca-Cola bottles and tons of music. I admit that I tend to judge a book by its cover, so I will buy albums, music unheard, just because the artwork caught my eye. I jot down names of artists & titles that listeners recommend and I try to use them in future shows. The world is HUGE and I am still learning about the great global voices and music that is out there. How do you know what to buy? ~Manoa I usually have an idea about what I'm interested in, but a lot of my library exists because I was browsing through the listening stations. It is a little strenuous if you stand around for a couple of hours...but this way you get to listen to the album and decide if its really worth your hard earned money. I have found that the international sections have been very user friendly in that artists are seperated by countries or regions. If you like a particular artist from India, it doesn't hurt to look in that section and see what else looks promising. Write down these names and do research via the internet, or go to the library...Sinclair is a great resource, it has the Wong Audio-Visual Library on the third floor. I also love compilations because I'll discover other artists that I never heard of. Because of one brilliant track on a compilation, I will go out and look for the artist's album. How did you get involved with KTUH? ~Kevin I heard about KTUH through Anthony, my partner in glass. He had an Italian show and I enjoyed the idea that I could pick and choose the music that I wanted to. The training period was unmemorable, 3-6 in the morning..uugh! But I had an 80's-rock show and a few other shows before settiling into the Planet. The freedom that KTUH offers is reflected in the music that each DJ plays. It shows how diverse and unique we all are. The station exposes me to so many different things and I have had tons of fun sharing my taste in music. I continue to seek out new and exciting tracks to get on the air each week, and I feel rewarded when listeners respond positively. Each week is a spontaneous splurge as I zip through my 180 minutes. |
