06-21-04:  How was Father's Day?  It was a fun show with a lot of tracks being played off the turntables.  I am a creature of habit, so I kind of fazed out and didn't realize that the usual 'By and By' would not be playing, since Kahikina wasn't in the station...
Anyhow, the show was a lot of fun as I brought some favorites from home and also played some recent purchases from the Almost New Music Sale held by HPR.  I've come to realize that my parents have had a huge impact on my musical tastes.  Dad has an eclectic vinyl collection, which mom would play for my brothers and I.  There were the usual Disney albums, Chinese folk, and the popular music of another generation.  I think I even went through a phase driving my brothers crazy with classical baroque.  Hope you had a great weekend too!

6-15-04:
I've just discovered the therapeutic effect of sunflower seeds.  I can spend the entire afternoon cracking and spitting out the shells, and somehow this ordinary act is sheer bliss.  Maybe I like the salt or maybe my wisdom tooth is exercising some muscle.  Unfortunately I've eaten up the entire bag and need to replenish the supply.  The 6/13 show was fun and chock full of good stuff.   Jack asked me if I was training someone else to take over the international show when I graduate.  That kind of struck home the fact that KTUH won't last forever.  I've really enjoyed my stint on the Sunday grid for as long as I have.  Each semester that I'm registered, means that I still have an excuse to buy music... Which reminds me that I'll be sharing some of the records that I picked up at HPR's music sale this past weekend.  There were a lot of things to explore and delve through.  I even saw a $500 bass guitar, which I admired but couldn't afford.   A lot of what you hear on the Planet is garnered from the immense library at College Radio, but I also supplement each show with my own collection.  I'm happy to see the world-beat section shifting a lot, because that means other people are playing world albums too.  So don't worry, even if the Planet orbits out of your hemisphere, the world of music is alive and well at KTUH.
