05-24-04:  A lot of listeners have requested flamenco music, so I wonder if you were there last week for the Paco concert at the Atherton?  My boss gave me the El Camino del Viento album and I'm looking forward to playing it.  As I prepared for the 5/23 show, I did a lot of reading in the Latin section of our library and it seems that flamenco has a broad reach... this style of music has influenced so many different artists all over the world, and I'm happy that all the callers who appreciated the flamenco music took the time to let me know how they felt.  I couldn't find the Cumbia Kings or Electricidade, but I think I've heard those names before, and hopefully I can play their tracks in the future.

05-17-04: Would you order a fritata made with six eggs, lobster and 10 ounces of cavier for $1,000?  I'm listening to this story about this decadent dish from Norma's and it's making me hungry.  Wish I had that much money to spend on one dish...  it'd be something to treat the whole gang to.  Congratulations are in order for the class of 2004.  Graduates are fortunate to have a healthy job market to send their resumes out to.  Think about it, no more classes or finals... just the rest of life to get on with... what joy.

05-10-04: Yesterday was Mother's Day and a lot of lively callers kept the phone-line busy with great requests.  The worldbeat section is currently being re-organized so I was flummoxed by where some of the artists ended up...  I've seen Jai Uttal's albums a zillion times in the past, but wouldn't you know, when I get a request for Jai, he's nowhere to be found.  In the course of the whole show, I ended up pulling a lot of albums, so it took longer than usual to clean up.  Ironically as I was putting away the Putumayo compilations in the Various section, three of Jai Uttal's albums turn up.  C'est la vie... I guess Wally won't get to hear his request until next week.  He likes flamenco too.

05-05-04:  Today was the last day of instruction at UH for those of you who have Wednesday classes, and it's also Cinco de Mayo.  Treat yourself to the mariachis at Aloha Tower's Waterfront Block Party or enjoy the other festive celebrations around town... Have fun, but don't play too hard, you still have to ace your finals next week!
