| 08-22-02: The days are counting down quickly and there is one more show until school officially starts on the 26th. Last week's show was tons of fun as I gave away a very solid compilation called Zen and the Art of Chilling, Volume 2. Michelle from Waikiki was the lucky winner as she recited the ABCs backwards for me. There hasn't been much happening this week except for deadlines, so I've been stressing for the most part. Well, I bid thee adieu until Sunday evening! Oh, quick afterthought, what do you think about the Planet shifting to a daytime slot? 08-15-02: There has got to be a better way to find new music...standing at a listening station for an hour and a half is very taxing on the body, but at least I know that I'll really like the music that I'm purchasing. The best clue I have as to whether or not I take the CD out of its jewel case is the label. My favorite ones to date are: Omtown (Higher Octave Records), Putamayo, Mondo Melodia, and Sony. Another thing that helps my dollar stretch is picking up compilations. I've tried to do the computer thing and find MP3s, but somehow they don't have the same magic as a CD in hand does. Well, KTUH has been very lucky to have Barbie, host of World Notes. Today is her last show and I'll be tuning into it on 90.3 from 6-9am. SHOUT OUT to S & L!! Thanks for the edit. 08-08-02: I am amazed at how slowly the minutes tick away when I'm not at the radio station...seventy-seven hours to go before the Planet orbits once again...in the meanwhile, have you heard the buzz about the Hungarian band called Black Train? I dare not venture into my favorite record store yet because I have this bad habit of wanting everything that I listen to...and that means I support the music industry with half of my paycheck...but the summer isn't over yet and I need to save my money!! The rest of the week just seems to slowly flow on by as I do all the mundane things that need to be done...laundry...pay the bills...sleep. For fun, I watched The Fellowship of the Rings on DVD...I love to swoon over Legolas + Enya's song during the rolling credits always tingles my spine. Best wishes going out to George and Lydia, the two staunchest Planet of Sound supporters that call in each week...good luck and I know that you'll be a positive influence where ever you venture in the wild blue yonder...you are the sweetest and most discerning listeners that I've had the privilage of playing music for. Take care and be safe. July 31, 2002: One of the most gratifying things about hosting the show is having people respond to the artists that I play on the air. A NEW voice on the Planet that has been garnering a lot of attention is Tina Malia. Her album is called Shores of Avalon and she has been a regular voice on the playlist for the month of July. I didn't know that she actually spent time in Hawaii...but click on her name and read reviews and listen to clips... This week marks the beginning of August and I am realizing that the summer is already half-way over...which means school is going to start up pretty soon. C'est la vie. I guess I'm lucky that I'm going to be taking a class with a professor that I adore, so it won't be painful to start the fall session. I love my Sunday evenings because I have the most wonderful opportunity to put the music I want to listen to on the radio...but enough about me, what is world music to You? |
