Brian tried to escape the club as soon as possible. Simply seeing Stefan would start the waves of heartache. He rushed back to his hotel suite and locked the door behind him, not wanting any visitors that night. He didn't bother changing or even turning on the lights, he just walked over to his bed and curled up beneath the comforter. He hugged his knees and began sobbing. Mascara-tinted tears dripped onto the pillow case and stained it. Brian opened his eyes and looked towards the window. The moonlight was usually reassuring to Brian (for some reason beyond his knowledge), but this time it magnified his pain. His sobs became increasingly loud and heart-wrenching. His stomach hurt, his head hurt, his heart hurt. His mind swirled with confusion and emotions. He sat up and turned on the small bedside lamp. He struggled from the comforter and staggered over to the bathroom.

He looked in the mirror. He hated what he saw. A loser, an image. He hated what he had become, what he was expected to be for the rest of his life. And he hated that this was what Stefan saw. His sadness turned to rage. Brian punched his fist into the mirror, and it broke into small glistening bits all over the floor. He crouched down to his hands and knees and found the largest piece he could. Weeping still, he pressed it to his forearm. He didn't care anymore. The world would be better without him. Nothing in life mattered to him. If he couldn't be happy, there was no point in living anymore.

*********

Stefan heard the sobs through the walls. They started out somewhat quiet, but grew into cries of unthinkable agony. He knew that it was coming from Brian. He walked out of the hallway and to Bri's door. He knocked. No one answered. Stef smirked. Dj vu... he thought. He tried the doorknob. It was locked. Panic rose up in his throat. He knocked again, still with no avail. Just as he felt tears of fear spring into the corners of his eyes, he remembered that he had an extra key to the room. Stupid thing to forget, he thought, as he tried to regain his composure. He unlocked the door and ran into the room. He didn't see Brian. Until he looked into the bathroom.

Brian was sitting against the bathtub, holding a piece of the mirror, with blood streaming down his arm, dripping onto the floor. He was staring bleakly at the wall, silent tears coursing down his cheeks. He was surrounded by smaller glass shards. Stef choked out a cry and ran into the bathroom. He awkwardly crouched down next to Brian and pried the mirror out of his hand. He encircled Brian in his arms and whispered words of comfort, and Brian started to sob. Stefan held him and rocked back and forth until the sobs died out into shudders and hiccups.

"What were you trying to do?" Stef murmured. Well, it was obvious, he knew *physically* what Brian was trying to do. But he wanted to know why.

"I don't know...I don't know..." Brian repeated over and over.

********

Brian didn't really remember what was going through his mind. All he remembered was feeling numb, and then feeling Stef's reassuring arms wrap around him. And then the pain and sadness surfaced again. But knowing that Stef was there was enough to calm him.

Next thing Brian knew, Stefan was picking him up off the floor and bandaging his arm. It was only a surface cut, much to both Brian's dismay and relief. Stef gently leaned Brian's face towards the sink and splashed cold water onto it and dried it with a towel. Brian stood up, tears still lingering in his eyes, and looked up at Stefan, trying to communicate his emotions to him.

Stefan seemed to understand. He gently wiped away the escaping tears from Brian's face and kissed his forehead.

Brian grasped Stef's arm suddenly. "Stay with me. Here. Just for tonight," he pleaded.

Stef just wrapped his arms around Brian's waist and pulled him into a hug. It was his way of saying he would.

*******

Stefan led Brian out of the bathroom by his hand. He had Bri sit down on the bed while he rifled through the dresser drawers for more comfortable clothes. He pulled out a t-shirt and boxers and helped Brian step out of his stained and wrinkled clothes and helped him into the clean ones.

Stefan helped Brian lay down and covered him with the comforter. He then cleaned up the broken mirror in the bathroom and returned to his room to change as well.

********

Brian was just about to drift off into sleep when he felt another body crawl into the bed beside him and wrap their arms about his waist. Brian turned his face to see Stef smiling lovingly at him.

Brian shifted his entire body so that he was facing Stef. He put his hand up to Stef's cheek and hesitated for a second, but drew Stefan's face closer to his. All he could hope is that Stef wouldn't push him away. He brought his lips to meet Stefan's and wished for the best.

********

At first Stefan was a surprised by the kiss. But it was something he knew he wanted, and he responded. He never realized that he loved Brian this much. As he saw it, he had pushed back that part of him that wanted Brian until now, for fear that it would ruin their friendship. It didn't matter now, though. All that mattered was that he was there for Brian.

All the inner pain that he sensed in Brian, all the diverted eyes, they made sense now. Stefan mentally kicked himself for not acting sooner. He didn't realize he had pulled from the kiss, lost in his thoughts.

Brian's panicked eyes brought him back, though. "What's wrong, love? Was it something I did?" His lower lip began to tremble.

Stefan shook his head, smiled, and initiated the kiss again, focusing only on Brian this time.

********

Brian felt safe. For the first time in his life he felt truly loved in Stef's embrace. He curled up and rested his head on Stefan's chest, which rose and fell gently with his breathing. He felt Stef's hand run through his hair and circle his shoulders, and they both drifted off into sleep.

They slept soundly until someone's bursting in through the door woke Brian. He turned his head and rubbed his eyes. One glance around the room told him it was morning. He focused his eyes on the figure standing in the doorway.

"Steve!" Brian exclaimed, surprised.

*********

Steve was taken aback. He had come to wake up Brian, who had slept in. But the sight that met his eyes was not one he was ready for. Brian and Stef, together? No, that can't happen. He stood speechless for a second.

"I...well I... Oh Jesus.."

"Christ, ever knock, Steve?" Stefan said groggily, waking up.

"Well I came to wake up Princess Brian here. We have a signing today, remember?" Steve said, still uneasy.

Brian sighed. "Oh damn, that's right..." He began to pull himself from the bed, but Stef pulled him back.

Steve felt increasingly uncomfortable and turned towards the door. "I really should be getting ready..." he muttered and left.

Once he was in the hall, he gasped for breath and cursed. This can't be happening, he thought.

*********

After Steve left, Stef looked at Brian and they both started giggling like children. They both saw how uncomfortable they were making him. Brian planted a kiss on Stef's cheek.

It was difficult to get up, but Stefan had to. He needed to go change. Brian grasped his hand, smiling, until Stef reached the door and closed it.

Back in his room, Stefan began his morning ritual. He brushed his teeth, searched for the day's clothing, and showered. He walked into the bedroom with a towel wrapped about his hips. He walked over to the chair where he had set out his clothes when he saw Brian reclining comfortably on the bed.

Brian smiled at Stef. "Oh, ignore me. I just want to watch youuuu..." he sang.

Stef chuckled. "How can I ignore you?"

"I'm not here," Brian stated firmly.

Stefan let out an feigned sigh of exasperation.

Brian just giggled. "I'm not here."

*********

Brian was happy. He knew the sleepless nights and the tears would stop. Stef really is beautiful, inside and out, he thought as he watched him dress. He was lost in his reveries until Stef had crept up next to him.

"We'd better be leaving. We don't want to be clawed to death by angry fans, do we?" Stef teased.

Brian laughed and jumped down from the mattress. He smoothed his clothes and linked arms with Stefan, who smiled radiantly at him.

********

Steve saw Brian and Stefan enter the dining hall. Linked arms, smiling, only inches apart... it made him uneasy. What would become of the band? What would happen to the fans if they knew?

Steve really hated to admit it, but he was a little jealous. Brian wouldn't be turning to him anymore for a shoulder to cry on, he'll be turning to Stefan. He was now an outsider. The relationship, it'd all be different. And he was so happy with how it was already.

Be happy for them! What's wrong with you? They love you too, Steve's conscience told him. Only part of it though. The other part seemed to be laughing at him, Out of the loop, out of the loop, out of the loop...

Steve shook his head. Just give it some time, you'll accept it sooner or later, he told himself.

Brian pranced up to the table. "Lovely day, isn't it?"

"But it's raiiining, dahl-ing," Stef said, as effeminate and aristocratic as he could.

Steve laughed. I wasn't often that Stefan would let go of his serious side. Maybe he could accept this. After all, the tension amongst the band seemed to have disappeared...

*******

Stef floated through the day as if it were a dream. He didn't remember the signing, except for the stolen gazes he and Brian shared throughout. He didn't really care if the fans or if the media noticed. There was nothing to be ashamed of, was there?

Brian bounced up to him after the signing was over. "Come shopping with meee," he giggled like a schoolgirl.

"Now why would I want to do that?" Stef replied.

" 'Cause you'd be shopping with me."

"Fair enough." Stef smiled.

Stef looked to see where Steve was. He was off flirting with a pretty woman that worked at the record store. He didn't really want to interrupt him, but nonetheless, he skipped up, mentioned the shopping expedition, and skipped away before Steve could respond.
