We had a great time in Salzburg! It is a gorgeous city nestled amongst the majestic mountains. We stayed at a Bed & Breakfast just outside of Salzburg (highly recommend it!), the Hotel Sallerhof in Grodig. We enjoyed a great meal at a little restaurant in the city center of Salzburg at a place where Mozart and Hadyn ate. There is a piece of the orginal stone wall structure inside the restaurant that you can eat next to. We strolled around the city at night and then were up bright and early the next morning to take the Sound of Music tour. We toured many of the film locations as well as many of the actual locations... the Abbey Maria and the Captain were married at as well as the house they actually lived in. We saw the location of the rail station they actual took to escape the Nazis. (much to our disappointment they did not hike over the alps!) It rained while we were in Salzburg, but the city was still beautiful! We were also there the morning after they found out that they did not get the most recent Olympic bid... it was to a city in Russia. The main Park in the city center was still decorated as the fans had congregated the night prior in hopes there would be a huge celebration. They were picking up the park the next morning so we took a few pictures next to statues with Olympic rings draped over them. |
