"Damn!" She exclaimed after buzzing Finn into the building. At that moment she was
more thankful than ever that their apartment was on the eighth floor. "What time is
it?"
"Almost two." Pacey continued drinking his juice.
She bit her lip, looking worried.
He arched an eyebrow. "Something wrong, Jo?"
"No, no. I just forgot that it's Friday. We have a class together." Joey looked lost in
thought for a minute, then shook her head. "I'll go change." She headed for her
room, but stopped just at the door. "Pace?"
"Yeah?"
She looked at him and shifted from foot to foot. "Can we - uh…"
"I won't say a word, Jo."
"Thanks." She shot him a relieved smile and ducked into her room.

Pacey finished the last of his drink and went to the sink to wash the cup, his
expression grim. He'd been trying so hard to remember what happened that his
headache was actually beginning to worsen.
He replayed the events of the previous night in his head, from the time that he
arrived home from work. Joey had been in a bad mood because she and Finn had a
fight. She had impulsively dragged him to a nearby bar they frequented. He went
along to humor her, although she never did say what it was the argument was
about. They had ended up drinking… and everything went blank from there. He
couldn't even remember how they got home.
What if they had slept together?
The memory of Joey in nothing but a blanket flashed through his mind and the glass
he was washing slipped, almost falling into the sink.
Don't go there, Witter, he reprimanded himself as he caught it just in time. Don't
even think about it.
He finished washing just as he heard the knock. "I'll get it," he called, so that Joey
wouldn't have to hurry out. Grabbing a dishtowel, he wiped his hands as he went to
let Finn inside.
"Hey, man." Pacey greeted as soon as he opened the door. He slung the dishtowel
over his shoulder and stepped aside to let the other boy in. "She's just getting
ready."
"Hey, Pace," Finn replied. "What's up?"
Joey rushed out of her room before he could answer. "Finn," she smiled her lopsided
smile. "Should we go?"
Finn nodded. "Let's go."
She glanced at Pacey. "See you later, Pacey."
"See ya," he called casually, heading back to the kitchen. "Later, Finn."
Pacey heard the door close behind them. He stood there beside the counter, deep in
thought.

Joey juggled her things and inserted her key into the lock, biting back a curse as
one of her books fell to the floor. She pushed the door open and picked up the book.
"Pacey?"
He wasn't there. She dumped her stuff onto the couch and walked to the
refrigerator. They always left notes for each other whenever one of them had to go
out on short notice.
"Out with Anne. Hope your day went great. P."
The tiny spark of anticipation she'd felt on the way home died a quick death. Joey
frowned, feeling silly. She didn't know why she had been so excited, anyway. She
and Finn had stopped at a café after class to get some dinner, and several times
during the meal she'd found her thoughts wandering.
She turned away from the fridge, attributing her excitement to the fact that she
and Pacey had yet to get to the bottom of… last night. It was Friday. Of course
Pacey would have a date with his girlfriend. She would be with Finn, too, if she
hadn't insisted that she was too tired to do anything.
Joey picked up the phone and dialed.
"Hello."
"Jen," she greeted. "You doing anything?"
Jen snorted. "I wish. David's still in London, Jack has a date. I'm going out of my
mind with boredom."
Joey grinned as she peered into the freezer. "What do you say we spend the night
with Ben and Jerry?"
"I'll have the spoons ready."
Grabbing two pints of ice cream, Joey headed back out of the apartment and rode
the elevator two floors down.
Jen was holding the door open when she arrived. She held up a couple of spoons.
"You're a lifesaver."
***
"No way. You're pulling my leg." Jen said incredulously.
Joey laughed, licking ice cream off her spoon. "I swear, it's true."
It was one hour, two pints of ice cream, and half a bad TV movie later. She'd just
told Jen about the circumstances in which she and Pacey had found themselves
that morning.
Jen was looking at her with her mouth open.
"We got dressed, and then Finn arrived." Joey continued.
Jen laughed. "Oh, this is too good. Then what happened?"
"Nothing. I made my hasty getaway."
"So you guys haven't talked about it?"
Joey shook her head. "I wanted to tonight, but he's out with Anne."
"Ahh."
"What, 'ahh'?"
"I mean, ahh - the significant others. What happened with you and Finn?"
Joey shrugged. "We settled the argument. It was silly, anyway."
Jen watched her thoughtfully. "And what are you going to do now?"
"Nothing." Joey repeated emphatically. "It was just one night. We're not even sure if
we really did it;" she forced herself to sound casual. "We're both involved with other
people. So the best thing to do would be to forget that it ever happened, don't you
think?"
Jen shook her head, a tiny smile playing at her lips.
"Jen," Joey said in a warning tone. "What now?"
"Nothing." Jen echoed, grinning. "I just cannot believe the two of you still can't
figure out what we've known since high school."
