"Jo? What are we doing in bed together?"

"Your guess is as good as mine." She started to get out of the bed, pulling the blanket along to cover herself.

"Hey!" Pacey grabbed the nearest garment and covered himself with it. He looked at her with a mixture of surprise and confusion. "You're naked, too?"

Joey shot him a withering look. "Brilliant deduction, Sherlock." She stood beside the bed, holding the blanket tightly around herself. Her glance skittered from his lap to his chest, and she forced herself to keep her eyes fixed on his face.

They'd been roommates for two years, so by now she was used to seeing him shirtless. But this was the first time she'd seen him shirtless in her bed, and suddenly she was having a hard time breathing. Pacey took excellent care of his body, and it showed.

Stop. Stop right there.

Her eyes were involuntarily drawn to his lap again. She started giggling.

"What?" Pacey looked down. The garment he'd grabbed for cover had turned out to be the lacy black camisole that Joey had been wearing the night before. He started laughing, too. "Great. You know, Jo, this isn't exactly what I pictured our 'morning after' to be."

She stopped laughing. "'Morning after'?"

"Yeah, I mean - " He paused. "We - didn't we - ?"

"That's the thing, Pacey. I don't remember. Do you?"

He frowned. "Right now, no. My brain can't get past the fact that I'm having one hell of a hangover."

Joey nodded. "I think we'd both better get some clothes on first."

Pacey agreed. "I think we'd better." He started to get up, then stopped and looked at her. "Hehe. Jo, d'you think you could..."

"Oh! Right," She turned so that he could get out of the room. She listened to him gather his clothes and walk to the door, then mischievously sneaked a peek at his behind.

Joey was smiling to herself as she picked up her discarded clothing, for the moment forgetting that neither of them could remember if they actually had done the deed.

Jen was going to love this.

Oddly enough, four of them had ended up in New York after graduating from Capeside High. Jen and Jack had gotten a place in the Village as soon as they could, while Joey spent her freshman year at NYU living in one of the dorms.

By the time she was a sophomore she wanted an apartment of her own, and fortunately for her, there'd been a vacancy in Jen and Jack's building. The catch was that Pacey wanted it, too, so they compromised and decided to be roommates until she could find her own place. She never got around to it.

She showered and threw on a pair of shorts and a tank top. The weather had been hot the past week, giving them a taste of what the summer was going to be like. Summer vacation was starting in a couple of weeks.

Pacey was sitting at the kitchen table when she came out of her room, drinking a glass of orange juice. Joey went to the refrigerator and surveyed the contents.

"OJ?" He offered, holding up the carton.

"Ugh, no thanks." She grabbed a bottle of water and opened it, leaning against the counter to face him. "Too... yellow." She winced. The pounding in her head was gone, but a dull ache remained.

He chuckled. "Looks like we got pretty wasted last night, huh?" He stared at his juice.

"I think that would be an accurate assumption, yeah." She took a sip of water. "Any luck remembering?"

"No. You?"

She shook her head.

Silence.

Joey cleared her throat awkwardly. "We did wake up naked, Pacey." She felt her face heat up as she said it.

"Jo..." he hesitated. "I've been sleeping that way for the past week, since it's been so hot."

She felt her face flush even more. "Actually..." she bit her lip. "Me too."

"Well, that brings us back to square one." He leaned back in his chair and looked at her. "What's the last thing you remember?"

"I - " She was cut off when the buzzer sounded, signaling that someone was waiting to be let into the building. Joey walked quickly to the door and pressed on the intercom. "Yes?"

"Jo, it's me."

Warning bells went off in her head.

It was Finn. Her boyfriend.
