The Oldest Known Walkers - Oldest WALKER Family Group Sheet for Jacob WALKER b. ca 1765-1770 Family Group Sheet for Andrew WALKER b. 13 Oct 1769 Index of Names/DOB for each WALKER and associated families See MY TREE Cemetery Listing - Advent Cemetery, Boggs Twp, Centre Cty, PA to be added soon Belief these WALKERs are "3 Brothers from British Isles" - This section will be the notes of Mrs. Gladys Murray, Bellefonte, Centre County, PA (email - [email protected]) and comments of her research of WALKER brothers all who came to the Centre County, PA area in the late 1700's and she believes to be the "3 Brothers from the British Isles". Thus, believing that the 3 WALKER Brothers are of English descent. Along with Mrs. Murry's notes and research, The Centre Democrate (Centre County newspaper) dated September 1, 1927 an announcement of a WALKER reunion. This announcement reads "... President J.S. WALKER called the meeting to order and in an elequent manner gave the chronological history of the WALKER family, which dates back to 1754 when Andrew WALKER and his two brothers arrived in the country from Scotland. Andrew WALKER landed in Kishcoquilla Valley, another brother settled in Lancaster while the third brother went into Virginia. Andrew WALKER's family consisted of twelve children who were located in Centre, Mifflin, Huntingdon, Blair, Clearfield, Indiana and Allegheny counties and mid-western states." The announcement indicated that 200 members of the family and then lists several who signed the 'sign-in' book. Belief these WALKERS are of German ancestry - This section will be the notes of Mr. Carl McCallus, Avis, Centre County, PA and his comments and research notes believing that the WALKER in Centre County are of German decent. In a letter written to me after an inquiry of him in 1997 - the letter edited reads, "The WALCHER/WALCKER" surname which I am seeking to establish, as part of my "WALKER" lineage, commences with selected progenitors Johannes WALCKER and wife Barbara (Shoemaker) who together with sons Jacob, b. Mar 4, 1750 and Mathias, b. Sep 12, 1753 arrived at Philadelphia on ship "Peggy", October 16, 1754, from Grotzingen, Germany. They settled first in Chester County, PA. Their descendants might have come to this area separately either via Northampton County, PA or Cumberland County, PA but are the persons whom I am seeking to locate with the hope that someone among them has a proven lineage back to their WALCHER immigrants that will name Andrew and Jacob. "LDS film #1056567, contains church book entried of Johannes WALCHER, his forebears plus his immediate family prior to their departing for America. ... it listed many WALCHERS who were born in Grotzingen. Many of their given names are the same as those of our ancestors, Jacob and Andrew used for their children. "My ancestor, the one whom I'm most concerned about, is Andrew WALKER who settled in the "Bald Eagle" valley (now Centre County, Pa) circa 1792. He was born in 1769 according to U.S. Census records but another source states his death age placing his birth in 1763. Of his many descendants, no one claims to know the name of his parents or the maiden name of his wife Catherine Margaret. "Recently, however, one reseacher by comparing birth dates of persons coming into central PA about 1790, has found that Andrew's wife's maiden name might have been FETZER. During 1800 when Centre County was formed, Andrew WALKER was living in Spring Township. At that same time a Michael FETZER was also residing there. Catherine Margaret FETZER did have a younder brother (by 2 years) named George Michael. Consequently, it's logical to assume that since there is only 2 days difference in the confirmed age of Catherine Margaret ..... more to add |
