When you first start out on Neopets, earning neopoints can be the hardest and most time-consuming thing. I wandered around aimlessly for a while until a neofriend gave me some tips and tricks. I wanted to pass these along to you so that you can have the best Neopets' experience possible! So here goes....
Neopets only gives you like 200 or 250 neopoints to start off with...so you have a long way to go! I've broken the sections down by amount of neopoints you have although it is a gradual process and the tips you use as a beginner will still come in handy for an expert. Best of luck to you and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me!
Beginner: 200 - 10,000 np's
First, make sure you get your free items every day. These will not only help feed your pet (saving you np's), you can also sell them in your store. Secondly, play the following games every day until you can build up some serious np's. Several of these have cheats, the rest are easy enough. Make sure you max these out each day. Some will help in other ways, Cliffhanger, for example, will also help make your pet smarter! Sakhmet Solitaire - 2,500 np's Pyramids - 5,000 np's Scarab 21 - 5,000 np's Cliffhanger - 1,500 np's The next listing of games are limited to submitting 3 scores a day, however they still add up fast: Ultimate Bullseye! Kiko Match! Sutek's Tomb (from here you can pick more games you like and just play!) Keep this up until you have at least 10,000 np's (and that's after buying all the cool new stuff you've found, like the plushies and the toys - it's ok, I did it too, just couldn't help it, what's the fun in having all those np's and not being able to spend them???) You will also sometimes be given items as an event while wandering the site or playing games (my friend got a Christmas Paint Brush - lucky devil, the best I ever got were some codestones, but that's good too). Make sure you put your good items in your safety deposit box or you'll find out the hard way (like I did) what a pain the Pant Devils can be (they stole my first zafara plushie I had saved up almost a week for, man was I mad!)
Intermediate: 10,001 - 50,000 np's
Congratulations, now the fun part begins! It's time to open a store if you haven't already. You've probably got some items accumulated by now, maybe even some things in your safety deposit box that you're not sure what to do with or your pet has grown tired of playing with. Maybe you've thought of auctioning them...don't! The only thing I've found auctions good for as far as selling goes is those items worth over 100,000 np (although you can find some good deals on buying as long as you know the worth of the item first. Anyways, back to the store... the information here can also be found on my Store Info page which gets more detailed on how to make your np's, I'm just going to cover the basics here. The one thing I'd do different if I had it to do over is change my username. That's how you're listed on the shop wizard, so the first thing to do is find out who else you're grouped with...for example I'm pjacks77 which means I'm listed with all the p's and also the h's and x's (don't ask my how they come up with their formula, I have no idea!) These are the people you will have to compare your prices with and keep yours the lowest. I wish my name started with an "f" because they're the highest priced on everything I've checked! Lucky devils, sigh...oops I digress, ok back to work. I'd at least have a store of level 8-10 for now. Put all your free and extra items in there, but don't go crazy on the price. It's really hard to sell an omelette for 200 when everyone knows they're free, however under 20np and they go like hotcakes. Again, make sure you check out the shop wizard. How do you make money in your shop? You figure out what items people want the most and you buy low and sell for a profit. At this stage, you can't do a lot in bulk so concentrate on the items you KNOW people want... codestones, faeries, etc. For example, I might check the wizard and find I can sell a Main Codestone for 4700 in my shop and still be the lowest price on that page. So I go the shop wizard, type in Main Codestone and then for max price I put 4640 (I try to only sell items I can make at least 60-70 np's on)... I've found them in the wizard for as low as 400 np's (which is a profit of 4240 - not bad) however normally I would buy for as high as 4639. You need to give yourself at least 50 np's difference between buying price and selling price because sometimes someone else will put their item lower than yours which will take it longer to sell yours. Don't load up when doing this, you don't have enough np's yet to do this in bulk. Just a few at a time and they usually go quickly. Never put anything in your store that you don't know the selling price for, always check the shop wizard! And of course, while you're doing all this, you're still playing those games we discussed earlier and adding to your np's that way as well, right? :)
Advanced: 50,001 - 200,000 np's
This is where I am right now, so after this the information will be what I've learned from my millionaire friends. Now's the time to start seriously playing Dice-A-Roo (DAR) and Scorchy Slots (SS) as well as starting to buy in bulk. Why play DAR and SS? By playing DAR (it's only 5np for each round) you can win food for your shop and possibly the jackpot (I've won it twice, but of course it was low each time). The food you can turn around and put in your store. I price everything I win from DAR at 97 which makes it go very fast (besides getting my np back from DAR and still turning a great profit). With SS, the stakes are a little higher, but the payouts are better. It costs 5np's per spin, so it goes a little faster. You can win faeries and map pieces, plus of course the jackpot. I've never played SS for any length of time and not made np's. I've won dozens of faeries which sell for well over 3,000 each. You see the plan now is simple, bring in the customers with the codestones and faeries and while they're in your store they invariably impulse buy other items. This means you need to keep your store stocked and expanding. Now honestly at this point I don't think I'll go much higher on store level, mine is around size 90 and that seems to work well for me. A store initially costs 150 to start and then goes up to expand, however once I hit level 80 it jumped from up to 18,000 to add a level...OUCH! Those people with shop sizes of 1300+ must have spent gazillions. The one thing you need to remember is to always have your store stocked...I cannot stress how important that is. Also, keep your prices reasonable, check the shop wizard often. Obviously, you won't have as much time to play games now (I spend one day mostly on the store and the next day I let it ride and play, then back to the store, etc.).
