| Music Reviews 2 Modest Mouse- "Good News for People Who Love Bad News"---- It is a good thing that I am patient with music. It is an even better thing that I didn't throw this CD in the sell pile after the first listening. The first time I heard it, I wondered what all the hype was about (not that I listen to hype and let it dictate my purchasing criteria...but, sometimes a girl has GOT to spend $15 on SOMETHING at the local Wharehouse Music). The second time I heard this album it had grown on me. The third time I listened to it I had learned most of the lyrics and had learned that singing whilst brushing one's teeth is hard. And dancing whilst putting one's jeans on is even harder. I am officially addicted to this album, and I have no idea why. I mean, how can I deny a band that flips off the conventional ideas of music? How can I hate such refreshing vocals, harsh lyrics, and an interesting use of a trumpet? I can't tell you if you will like this album, I don't know how warped your brain is pre-determined to be. But, I can tell you that you will not leave this album untouched by SOMETHING, whether it be annoyance or a new favorite bands, or even a new appreciation for a different sound. Whatever the case may be, try this one out. Final Say- If you like...well, there is nothing to compair it too...but, if you have an uncontrollable quest for new sounds this is for you. But, DO give it a chance. The band deserves it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spoon- "Girls Can Tell" ---- I love Spoon. This IS their best album, and sadly their least known album. It is a shame that bands like Hoobastank, or whatever, get more air time than this band. It is sad that bands with REAL talent are ignored because they don't fit into the mold that Clear channel controls. It is even sadder that music stores don't carry many Spoon albums. It took me forever to find this one, and I was so shocked when I did that I grabbed it, thinking that someone else would snatch it from me since it was such a rare find. Get this album if you love pure talent and great music. This album could be a classic if people would just pick it up. "Everything Hits at Once" is the opener track and it sets the mellow/rock mood for the entire album. Each song is better than the previous one. The lyrics are achingly wonderful, and the music itself is amazing. Do whatever you can to get this album, even if it means selling your Hoobastank. Final Say- I went too long without this album. Don't put yourself through the same neglection. HOME |
