SUV's
By PiYoNugget
Numerous people in the United States drive
SUVs. What compels these people to drive a Sports Utility Vehicle,
is beyond me. Most of the time when an SUV is on the road it
is only occupied by one person, and is not being used to tow
anything, or filled with things that need to be moved. Quite
on the opposite when an SUV is in use, it is very much empty
except for the driver who is also speeding. Those people who
do the aforementioned need to be destroyed. All SUVs except
those belonging to people who live in rural areas, and/or have
families of four or more need to be banned.
White people who place their little American flag on the bumber
to show their jingoistic support of America and its war on terrorism
drive most SUVs. The whole time their SUV is most likely a Toyota
or Lexus or some other import. If that is not enough they drive
a vehicle which is three feet higher than all other vehicles
on the road. Are these white people trying to send a message
to everyone that they are higher on the racial pyramid? I believe
so.
Most SUVs are never used for their intended purpose. An SUV
has the capability to transport up to seven people or hold a
great deal of equipment, and some can tow up to several tons.
Nevertheless, by no means will one see an SUV used for this
purpose. This is a shame. Since, SUVs are extremely big and
heavy, and always have an extremely huge engine they use masses
of gas. Now, anyone who has taken high school physics can tell
you to go faster requires more energy, and when a SUV is speeding,
along with it being a gas-guzzler already now it is a gas vacuum.
Our capitalist system is based on a premise of Supply and Demand,
and anyone who even remotely attended an econ class in school
can tell you when demand increases price goes up. In the above-mentioned
paragraph, it was shown that SUVs use massive amounts of gas.
If the demand for gasoline increases as more people buy SUVs
and drive them fast, then the price for gasoline for all people
will go up. With simple application of Supply and Demand theory,
one will arrive at this conclusion.
Now some might be forming the argument of so what? If people
want to drive fast in a SUV and use loads of gas that is there
right to do so. For those people they need to look at the bigger
picture. The United States gets over 75% of its oil and gasoline
from countries other than itself. If the citizens of the US
are driving vehicle, which use more gas than necessary, they
will become more dependent upon foreign oil. Therefore, SUVs
are not just a economic problem, but a National Security Problem.
SUVs are not just a national security problem they are also a
safety hazard on the road. In all crash tests at high speeds,
it has been proven that all SUVs are dangerous not just to the
passengers in the SUV, but also to any other passengers involved
in the accident regardless of car they are in. As previously
stated SUVs are heavier, and when something is heavy, it takes
longer for it to stop. Not only are SUVs heavier they are also
taller, which makes them very susceptible to tipping over, which
can lead to passengers being trapped inside the SUV, and eventually
to their death.
However, this might not concern some people. Most are quite
content with letting auto-manufactures create death traps. Look
at ford and the pinto, how long did it take them to make it safe,
too long. However, there is some light at the tunnel. A good
suggestion would be to impose a tax on SUVs. This way at least
people have the option if they can afford (which seems to be
a very American) to drive their SUV. Suppose for all SUVs we
place a tax which doubles the price. The tax revenue generated
from the sale of SUVs could be used to find new sources of fuel,
make cars safer, subsidize gas, or help make public transit better.
All of these are much better ideas than letting the current
system continue as it is.
