On the Subject of REAL Goths
Date of Original Post: Oct. 8, 2002
Was surfing the other day, and came across a site that was
talking about posers.
Granted, I don't like it when people try to be something they are not, as it
hurts them more than anyone else, but I don't have real guidelines to what makes
a poser . . . and whoever made the site (it will stay nameless and url-less
here, as i don't remember what or where it was... lol -I'm such a dork, I know,
but it couldn't afford itself the opportunity of me noticing that much
information for it) is a frelling loser and 'holier than thou' arsehole who
needs to get off their friggin high horse.
Anyway - I want to make a statement about giving a list for what makes a poser .
. .
As far as I'm concerned . . . what you like, where you shop, what books you
like, what movies you like, which painters/artists you like, who you idolize,
whom you lust over . . . has nothing to with making you a poser . . . As long as
YOU like them b/c YOU LIKE THEM and not because the latest 'in' thing is to like
them or b/c it will get you attention. (please seek therapy if that's your case
. . .)
I also don't think that you are a poser of the gothic culture is you don't wear
makeup twenty four seven. Some people think that this a must. . .
So, the culture is all about the makeup now??? All about the look??
There are those who say it is about more, but with all the crap I've seen
lately, I'm really starting to doubt it from the people who call themselves
'real' Goths.
See my point?
But, I guess the 'real' Goths wouldn't like ME b/c I don't adhere to makeup, all
black and The Cure every moment of every day of every week of every month of
every year of my life.
Sorry if I think I'm more than a stereotype.
And if that's what it takes for you to like me, well, damn it, I don't need your
sorry 'I'm a persona' arse in my life anyway.
I mean, who can sit there and make a list of what is cool and what is not??
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of individuality that I always thought the
gothic culture supported??
Mayhap I was wrong, methinks.
Mayhap.
Anyway, to everyone who is REAL about who they are and don't give two pissed on
pennies about what the 'I'm a friggin stereotype and that's the only REAL Goth
there is's think or what anyone else in general thinks . . . I take my Hardees
hat off to you (as that is the only hat in my possession to take off) and give
you a deep bow.
I thank you for having the greatness of mind to be real.
Me?
well, I don't care what I am really . . .
does it REALLY matter in the long run of life??
must my headstone read 'Here lies Laura, she was a good friend, a shy shadow and
a REAL Goth/Metal-Head/Punk/Hippie' ???
I hope not!
Egh, please people . . .
when you adhere to guidelines, you become a stereotype . . . and that defeats
the whole purpose . .
and wait, doesn't that make YOU a poser??
O will the horror ever stop??
Only if you stop pushing your insecurity and prejudices on others!!
Common Sense people . . . it should be born in you, now reach in and FIND IT!
Goddess, I hate trends . . .
and that's what it seems the whole Goth thing is now . . .
My evidence lies above.
