Recommended Children's Books

As a future educator of children, I can't help reading lots of children's books. Here's a list of authors and books that I think are great (and they are even good for adults too!) Also, soon enough (after I do some research) I'll have some websites that you can check out about the authors. Enjoy!

Dr. Seuss: Who could forget this great man? You can find wisdom in any of his books, from Green Eggs and Ham to The Butter Battle Book to the classic graduation gift, Oh, the Places You Will Go. Check out some sites about Dr. Seuss below!

Eric Carle:Yet another great children's book author...and that's not it, either! He's also an illustrator. Eric Carle books have it all: a good story, great pictures, educational merit, and sometimes even something to do (holes to poke your finger in, sounds, lights, something!) Don't you remember reading The very hungry catepillar and Brown bear, brown bear when you were a kid? (He wrote and illustrated the first, and illustrated the second one.) Check out his website and learn even more about him!

Madeleine L'Engle: The author of the famous, award winning A Wrinkle in Time had more than just a trilogy of books of books about space travel. L'Engle has an entire slew of books, almost all of which are interconnected. Whether you read them in order or randomly, these books are sure to amaze you. Oh, and listen up adults! These books aren't just for kids. Some of them say adult fiction, and L'Engle, herself, said that she didn't want her books categorized like that.

J.K. Rowling: The author of the famous Harry Potter books just can't be ignored. Once a starving artist, now a famous writer, who doesn't really want all this attention. But you know what? She's going to get it anyway! Harry Potter has infiltrated American culture, and it's not just for kids either. These books have great lessons, if only parents and other adults are willing to read them! (If you can't tell, I'm opposed to banning Harry Potter!)

Leslea Newman: This is the author of the controversial book, Heather has Two Mommies. I believe that this book was a great step towards equality, open-mindedness, and homosexual marriage.

Michael Willhoite: Here is another author that is open to homosexual marriage. Daddy's Roommate and Daddy's Wedding deal with explaining to a child that they have a gay or lesbian parent. Kudos to you, Michael Willhoite!
