Last updated November 8th, 2000 :
Last night's FA offers came and went with a bang!
For the first time
in a long time, 3 teams bid on the same FA. Shjon Podein
was in high
demand, with the eventual winning bidder, the Victoria Blitz,
forking over $310,000. The bid beat the SFE's bid
by only $60,000 and the BRR bid
by $210,000. An expensive aquisition indeed, but a move
the Blitz felt they needed. The FA pick-up also
hindered the SFE from unloading M.Wilson - although
there is still one night remaining for the FA quick-pick option that the
remaining 2 clubs might do. Also, Garpenlov will remain a BRR for
another month at least.
In other FA news, the SBF stole Matteau for $150,000.
In return, the club
let go of injury prone McLaren. McLaren has had two
horrible seasons
in a row, including the 2000-2001 campaign, due to nagging
injuries.
Other players let go are Blake Sloan of the Victoria Blitz.
Sloan, although a diamond in the rough, will need a
couple of years before he gets consistent ice time and
the Blitz coaching staff are simply not patient enough.
Tom Kurvers said "...sure we like Sloany, but the guy has
been in the lineup only three times this year and and
that rate he won't score a point until February".
