Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)

Cast:Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, Timothy Carhart, John Saxon,Theresa Randle,Joey Travolta,Bronson Pinchot

This time Eddie Murphy returns to take on the thugs who killed his police chief, however the killer runs an amusement park and along the way goes out of his way to disprove and discredit Murphy's investigation but of course Judge Reinhold is there and always provides the usual back up. The  overall feeling this movie gives off can be summed up by two words: Enough already.

I never was a big fan of this series, sure
Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 were fun and had moments of entertainment but my favorite Murphy movie will always be 48 HRS. That being said Beverly Hills Cop III is no 48 HRS, it's no Another 48 HRS either it is without a doubt one of the worst movies John Landis has ever directed. It's so friggin awful that one can't even laugh at the awful antics here. Secondly John Saxon is completely wasted in the role, instead we are stuck with Joey Travolta and well that speaks for itself.  I think one of the reasons why I never loved this series was that it was always a cut and paste formula that was interchangable from millions of other cop thrillers, BHC III is without a doubt even more of a soulless carbon copy because it doesn't even deliver the hand to hand goods, it's simply a movie made by people who wanted to cash in on a fad that was getting old, way old. Indeed for a 1994 movie, BHC III feels older than the first film, indeed even older than some of Charles Bronson's 70's action epics. Movies like this only work if the energy level is there, the first two had that, that's why I recommended them but this one is so lifeless that it doesn't even excite when the pistols start blazing. It's simply a rotten sequel to decent but overrated series. D. John Landis *
