| Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) Cast:Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Asthon, Jurgen Prochnow, Brigette Neilsen, Ronny Cox This time Detroit cop Eddie Murphy goes back to Beverly Hills to catch the weapons dealers who shot his friend and left him in critical condition, of course he hooks up again with his partners from # 1 and delivers a lesson in manners these European terrorists will never forget in this enjoyable sequel which actually is slightly better. As far as formula goes Beverly Hills Cop II certainly walks a straight arrow line, nothing happens here that comes to the slightest surprise, however where as the first one had a lackluster pace, this one just keeps coming at you and delivers mainly what'd you expect to see. Plus the villains this time are much better used than in # 1, indeed the first villain came off as a stock threat at best, this time though at least Prochnow is a good enough villain to make the movie a tad more enjoyable. That being said though, it's all the usual mayhem inspired by revenge, the first one had Murphy's friend dying and now this one has Ronny Cox shot. It plays somewhat like a remake but at least Tony Scott puts some verve into the project, since this sequel is brimming with far more energy than # 1. D.Tony Scott *** |
