Unloading

So, one of my email friends told me about this place called Freecycle. You sign up for a yahoo group in your area and then people send out emails of stuff they have that they are trying to get rid of...not sell...not trade...not auction off...but GET RID OF as in, give away for free. So, since we've got a garage of things that we don't want (well, OK I didn't want them) I posted on the list to get rid of it. So far we've unloaded his old coffee table, a credenza that was WAY TOO HEAVY for us to lift much less cart into the basement, and a Herman Miller desk. It was like a cubile in pieces. Dave was trying to get rid of it at the garage sale, but no one could quite tell what it was since it was all in parts and not assembled.
So now hopefully the girl willing to take his old sectional will show up. And then perhaps we can get the CARS into the garage! Cuz...that'd be cool.

So anyone with some stuff they don't quite think they could sell...and don't want to just throw away...go sign up on the Freecycle list that's in your area and check it out...you set the rules for the giving away....if you want them to supply the truck and labor to move the big sofa out that's what happens....you don't have to lift a thing...unless you feel bad and want to help them out.

You can also post a request for stuff, if there is something you really need but can't get.

EVIL!

So...lets discuss the evil-ness of siblings. Always a fun topic for me. My BS (aka Big Sis or you could take it as BS cuz she's full of it) has told my LS (aka Little Sis) that if she comes to her house for the Christmas holidays she's gotta pay for food because BS "can't afford" to feed her for 4 days. That's right, if LS stays at BS's house she's gotta pay for food. Which is just a way for BS to get money out of LS because BS can't seem to control her spending...or budget her money properly.

And year after year she pulls this crap with LS. Now, I'm not made of money, and I'm not such a hot budgeter either but if someone asks to stay at my house for 4 days....I can handle sharing what bit of food I've got with them. Although LS did complain about my food choices last time she stayed with me.

LS: what's for dinner?
ME: I'm eating it...
LS: You can't have DORITOS for dinner!
ME: Why not? Bijou likes them.
LS: There's no FOOD in your food!

So yeah...she may have to fend for herself slightly but I'm not going to be telling her she's gotta pay up or not come. And ya know, BS didn't tell LS she COULDN'T go there...because if she did that, no one would get presents from her... And ya know, they NEED presents. So... yeah, there are many many reasons why I am rather "estranged" from specific members of my family. I call only when absolutely necessary and I don't even bother emailing or trying to visit or IM anymore. I learned my lesson. Now it's time for LS to learn.

All is well

For anyone who remembers that the boy works for LaSalle Bank, yes he is fine after The Fire. He USED to work in that building, but they built a fabulous new one at Madison and Canal and that's where he is now.
As we watched the local coverage all night (instead of Monday Night Football) his phone kept ringing with people from work discussing what is to be done regarding the servers and computer stuff there. He left for work this morning around 4am.
So yes, the boy is fine, he was not in the towering inferno, he was involved in the reported fire drill a few months ago when he had to go to the old building for some meeting or something. All is well, he's fine, I'm fine. He's just got a whole lot of work on his hands now.
