Sweet?

My "sweet" little Mabel has taken to howling from the top of the stairs and swatting and hissing at the dogs when they try to get past. At this moment she's actually sitting in the kitchen staring at me and crying.

I've asked Bijou to talk to her but Bijou doesn't seem to care or she doesn't understand what I'm asking her to do. I suspect that Bijou is enjoying having me all to herself and she's telling Mabel stories of how mean the dogs are.

B: Yeah, don't go near the dogs, that big one...she'll bite your tail. She told me how much she likes the taste of cat tails.
M: Really? I thought she had an evil look in her eye. Don't worry Bijou, I'll keep your tail safe from her... GRRRRR! MEEERRROOOOWWLLL!
S:(the dog)What is up with that cat?
C: (other dog)Maybe she wants to play with us? I'll go ask...
M: GETAWAYFROMMEDOG! HISSS HISSSSS HISSSSS. (Swats at C's nose)
C: YIPE! (runs away)
C: (to S) Don't go near that nasty cat...
B: See and that one...he comes along to distract you while the big one chews on your tail
M: ACK! My tail! (begins to spin in circles)

Ode to Network Television

Oh how I hate you, Network TV
You give us shows and then at the last 5 minutes
pre-empt the ending to tell us things that could wait

Like, how terrible the weather can be
I have a window, I know it's bad
NOW GIVE ME MY SHOW BACK! LEAVE IT BE!

I've invested 55 minutes to this end
CSI NY, WHY in the last 5 minutes
Must you cut away to tell me Arafat is dead?

NO OTHER NETWORK last night cut away
ABC felt that this news could wait
until Wife Swap was done for the day

But CBS, they cut away,
I now have no idea how this episode ended
Thanks a lot you bastards...

North Magnetic Pole could be leaving Canada

The North Magnetic Pole could soon abandon Canada, migrate north of Alaska and eventually wind up in Russia, according to a Canadian scientist.

The magnetic pole, which has steadily drifted for decades, has picked up its pace in recent years and could exit Canadian territory as soon as 2004, said Larry Newitt of the Geological Survey of Canada.

Melting sea ice and thawing permafrost is rapidly altering the Arctic environment. The changes could drive seals, polar bears and other animals toward extinction, said the report issued yesterday.
"It's happening very fast, and . . . it's fairly convincing that on the scale of our lifetimes very dramatic things will be happening."

Arctic heating up fast

The biggest survey to date of the Arctic climate, by 250 scientists, said the accelerating melt could be a foretaste of wider disruptions from a build-up in the atmosphere of human emissions of heat-trapping gases.
