Commercial Diving In The Gulf of Mexico

To be a commercial diver you must go to a dive school. There are several to choose from:

As of June 16, these are all of the dive schools I am aware of. Any school is easy to get in to, Mike Tyson's glory dayswith all providing financial aid. I will state now that I do not work for any of the dive schools, nor am I associated with them in any way. I am just a diver that was ripped off like most everyone else. When you are choosing a dive school, I will tell you now, the only thing you need to worry about is the cost. The dive school I went to is closed now, but at the time it was $5,500. I know you are thinking what a rip off that was, but when you see that the schools now are charging anywhere from $9,000 to $14,000, it seems like a bargain. Now, be honest, would you rather pay many thousands of dollars for school, or would you be happy shelling out a few hundred bucks? I am telling you to forget about all the other dive schools, and go to Young Memorial dive school at Louisiana Tech in morgan city. The link is up above. They can charge so little, because they are a state run school. They are not a private specialty school that is after all of your retirement savings so they can pad theirs. They are out to educate the public and provide them with education so they can help the sad economy of this state. Now you are probably worrying that you are not going to be able to get in because you are not a resident. No need to worry. For just a minimal amout of money, you can enroll as a non resident. Your biggest fear is probably that they arent going to give you the training you need to get a job. The only thing you need to have when you leave dive school is a piece of paper that says you graduated. You don't need NDT, welding, or DMT(dive medicine) training to get a job. And having these skills will not get you a job over anyone else. The dive companies will take the guy that is in the office when they need someone. They could care less about anything else. As for being prepared for the job, if you can make it through the school, you wil be all right. There is so much that you need to know, it all comes with experience. There is no way you could ever learn it in a classroom or school. Don't let the private pirates bullshit you into their schools. They may tell you about their high placement, and try to impress you. Ha! Every company is hiring now, so of course they will have high placement. If you go to school in Morgan City, you will be within 75 miles of all the dive companies in the gulf. You won't even have to move again when you get out of school. Nothing like having to move to school, pay for it, and then move to get a job huh? Trust me, Just go to this school. they are the way to go. If you have any questions, e-mail me.
