{roll The M47 was a transition tank in the development of the USA's armour's doctrine, this point is completely clear, because in 1950, when the M47 still wasn't at production, US Army hired Chrysler to build its replacement, the M48.

This tank is an Hybrid from the M46, which is essentially a re-built M-26 Pershing, and a turret from the frustrated T41,T42, and T43 tanks program, aproved in 1948. This program failed because of pressures by the congress, in a rushed attempt to build new tanks in time for turning the tide in the Corean War. Far more than 8.000 of this M47 were built, but the delays in a bad conceived development project didn't allow the first tanks being delivered before 1952, so, not one M47 saw action in Corea. In USA Army, it was very soon replaced by the M48, and the 47's were delivered to a number of western countries. It still conserved the anachronic fift crewman, had a very short range petrol engine, and had no fire control, nor NBC, nor vision equipment. An old tank since its birthday...
