submitted by Tom: One of my X 2 B brothers, Uncle Paul was well known to always manage to buy the most unsuitable Christmas presents, expecially for kids. We always use to have a discussion beforehand about Uncle Paul and his choice of presents with our kids and explain to them that it was the thought that counted more than the actual gift itself.  Also, we pointed out that it was very important to say "Thank you for my present" even though they may not like it.  Sure enough, when the bit moment arrived and Uncle Paul handed out his presents, everyone sat around holding their breaths in anticipation,  ready to utter those immortal words, "Gosh, that sure looks pretty/useful!"  Well, kids are kids aren't they and can be so honest and priceless at times.   Sure enough, my 4 year old daughter came out with the scripted words......Thank you Uncle Paul for my present...even though I may not like it.

submited by Andy: The only memory I could come up with is the 1st white Christmas I can remember, when I was 8 yrs. old.  I lived in Everdon and it snowed all night on Christmas eve...woke up to loads of snow....village blocked off from all traffic. We could not get out of the village to go to church for mass.  There were snow drifts everywhere.  There were 2 roads out of the village, one to a town called Daventry and the other to a lil' village called Weedon and both roads were inpassable.  We drove into a snow drift and got stuck both wasys.  So we never got a Christmas service that year and just gave up and went home to open our pressies and have dinner which sounds a better way to have Christmas morning anyway when you are 8.  I think this is the yr. that dad spent many long evenings building me and my brother a fort and cowboys to play with.  We did the usual stuff about mince pies and a glass of sherry left by the fire place so Santa could have a drink and a snack after he had been to deliver all our presents and a carrot for rudolf.  Never guessed for ages who was taking all that!
