PROZAC (ORIGINAL VERSION) (MUSCUTT)
Wake up fine or so you thought go back to bed feeling the lies
The medicine cabinet is ruined ransacked by your ruthless addiction
Now theres nothing else to satisfy you as you lie unconscious on the floor
Prozac is what you need why dont you let me near you
You know I want to help you but I cant if you keep me away
So as you sit in your cell looking out youre viewing but not seeing the world you left behind the door
You couldnt stop at fifty you had to have more Prozac is what you need why dont you let me near you
You know I want to help you but I cant if you keep me away
Now your life is a mess and somethings missing from your life
But through the medication haze you cant quite remember what it is
Prozac is what you need why dont you let me near you
You know I want to help you but I cant if you keep me away
I come and visit you on Sundays but you dont recognise who I am
I brought a photo of your baby but your eyes are glazed and distant and cold

The first version of this song suffered because it was done just as I had started writing songs, and wasnt really that good at it. Although it gets its message across OK, I thought it focused too much on the person in the song being in some kind of institution, and it needed an overhaul to change the direction of the song. See March 2001.
TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT (MUSCUTT)
You can tell them anything whatever you want it makes no odds to me nothing affects me least of all you
You cannot control me or hurt me with words so tell them what you want
Because whatever it is Ill still be up on the deal
I know we were finished from the start I knew you felt nothing in your heart
So go to the papers yeah spread the word on me because when you go home to your house youll find
Your familys been burnt alive you cannot control me or hurt me with words so tell them what you want
Because whatever it is Ill still be up on the deal Ill always be on top of you Ill never let you up for air
Ill always be beating you even when youve left town

Another revenge orientated song this time about someone who seriously wants to get their own back on someone, even going to the extent of burning their family home. Its not based on anyone I know, by the way, my friends arent that dangerous.

EMERGE (MUSCUTT)
Emergency number dialled at midnight from a badly ruined room its you
Calling for help as you fall to the floor you say you cant take any more
And from this shell that I see lying here I know that from inside
The true you will emerge like a butterfly youll come into the world again and this used up shell will fade away
The doctors saying he couldnt do anything for you he had to let you go
And the councillors saying something but I dont hear him I never wanted to let you go
But from the waste left after the storm I see here I know somewhere inside you didnt mean it
It was an accident or so I want to believe and all I want is for the used up memories to fade away
To die like you but do we live again only you can prove to me its true come back and tell me someday
Ill never be far away I hope you do because I want you to see me living my life too
And from this shell that I see lying here I know that from inside
The true you will emerge like a butterfly youll come into the world again
And this used up shell will fade away fade away fade away fade away

I always imagined this as a really long song, with a kind of electronic feel to it. The subject matter is quite dark, its about suicide victims and viewing dead bodies in morgues. I think everyone sees at least one dead body in their life, maybe not. I have, Im not too sure about other people its not really what you talk about on the phone is it?
COOL TO BE CRUEL (MUSCUTT)
Every film I see tells me thats its cool to be cruel
That its good to be bad and when I see the screen at night
Images of evil images of ourselves can you teach an old dog new tricks
Like how to murder another that we leant when we bought this colour TV
Its cool yes its cool to be cruel to the people who kept you down
Keep on watching this empty space and itll fill you
With a feeling thats not wrong every film we watch on the screen was like
Looking through a keyhole to your room seeing things we should never see except in our dreams
Will you let me take a look just one more time will you let me make the things I see mine
Killing us gently but we never even know that what we made ourselves would come back
To destroy us make nothing of us oh its cool yes its cool to be cruel to the people who kept you down
Keep on watching this empty space and itll fill you with a feeling thats not wrong
Every film we watch on the screen was like looking through a keyhole to your room
No promises well ever fill the void weve made
Its good to be bad and its bad to be good and cool so cool to be cruel

The origins of this song came from films and things that display violence and generally being cruel as being the cool thing to do, when really its not and we only watch them for entertainment value.
