DECEMBER 2001
EXPLORATORY TIMES (LAUGHTON)
Times go by and your feelings change from stay to leave from home to away
Exploring the world and times as we live were looking around for something new
In the beginning were meant to want to go
In the middle its just part of the flow towards the end to lie and stay
Staying at home not going away following our hopes passions and dreams
Dont look back, so far it seems but enjoy it while its there to see
Cant let these feelings get on top of me must push on and see more light
Resist the urge to stay not fight to leave the roots and fly from the nest then come back and have your rest

[Simon]: [This song is about] travelling from home, maybe for the first time.

FIRST TOWN HOME WAY (LAUGHTON)

Patterns followed by rain and snow friends and family join the flow
Your way to deal is already dealt hands clasped, down your knelt
Feeling the heat of developing hope being watched and told youll choke
Its the home town way you know pressure is on, escape this low
Easy to see the dark and not the light dont sit down, stand up and fight
Its the home town way you know pressure felt, dont think just go
Peer pressure is something bad being driven the way they point
Those who follow only end up sad existence as boring, smoke a joint
Pushed away to the ways of all the kids have no choice the way they fall
Its the home town way you know pressure is on, escape this low
Easy to see the dark and not the light dont sit down, stand up and fight
Its the home town way you know pressure felt, dont think just go

[Simon]: A difficult song to explain.  Mainly it is about how children have their lifes pre-made for them before they are old enough to choose for themselves.  To a certain extent it is about being old enough to choose.  Having the right to choose for the first 18 years of your life removed.  Some people might struggle after this period then to make decisions and be decisive.

INSPIRATION BASIS (LAUGHTON)

Over time the tips we collect from the voices the tone we detect
Inspired by the words we hear inspired by the failure we fear
Choosing ways in which we work pushing out through the mud and dirt
Make you wonder what we see often not til its right in front of me
Passing the chance to hold the words clench them tight to your chest
Over time the tips we collect from the voices the tone we detect
Inspired by the words we hear inspired by the failure we fear
Quotes from all the faces we know influence the way we choose to go
Bad and good, the ones you choose no grey areas, its win or lose
So follow them towards your goal let us see if they take there toll
Over time the tips we collect from the voices the tone we detect
Inspired by the words we hear inspired by the failure we fear

[Simon]: This song is simply about the sub-conscious messages we pick up from famous people, and the people we see everyday.  Sometimes we realise how we react by maybe mimicking quotes or such.  Many of the vibes and senses we pick up without knowing though, and this affects our lives.

NEGATIVE HOPE (LAUGHTON)
At the bottom, up is the way at the top, all to do is stay
No way forward, boundaries to push achieve the best then stay put
Negative hope is the way to be then theres a way forward for me
Rich and titled where are they going no where, but falling for money
From down low, its a one way street onwards to the light we greet
As a sign of success everyone knows money and love at the close
At the bottom, up is the way at the top, all to do is stay
No way forward, boundaries to push achieve the best then stay put
Negative hope is the way to be then theres a way forward for me

This is one of Simons songs and as a result, Im probably not the best equipped to explain it. From my point of view, its abouthaving everything, you know, money and that, but getting nowhere in life. Kind of having it all and not being able to go anywhere. Alternatively, it could be about being right at the bottom of the pile, and having upwards being the only way to go because your life cannot get any worse. Or maybe its all about yoghurts

PUBLICISED (LAUGHTON)
Standing tall and proud above the crowd holding your ego above all the below
Feeling so large surrounded by your montage but your nothing, nothing at all
No better no worse than all the rest your nothing, nothing at all
Just a number, a thing, not the best dreaming up what to say, out your mouth come what may
Looking so good, do anything you could on top of the world, eyeing all the girls
But your nothing, nothing at all no better no worse than all the rest
Your nothing, nothing at all just a single person, not the best

Simon: How some people react in the public eye seems to differ from others. This was just about the people that go over the top and are totally in love with themselves.

PUSHED FROM LOYALTY (LAUGHTON)
Hurting to know that values cease I thought loyalty would count at least
Older generations changing too past times now are so few
Fuck it I dont like being pushed I just want to have fun
Fuck it I dont want to be crushed I just want to learn
Stick with you friends right the way until the end
Then youll see some true love just like from the Big Man above
Stamped or numbered into a path just go for your heart have a laugh
If you dont take it while you can youll regret it when youre a man

Simon: Without going into details, I wrote this song soon after something happened in my life and I felt I was being moulded into something I wasnt.  I also felt the people pushing me into certain decisions should know better.  I felt anger towards them.  No-one is the same.
