On September 13, 1969 at 10:30 am CBS aired the premier of its new Saturday morning cartoon called Mysteries Five. It was about 4 teenagers travelling the country solving mysteries. A non-talking Great Dane travelled with them. Later the name was changed to Who's Scared.
One night, as the man
behind the show, Fred Silverman, was listening to Frank Sinatra's
Strangers in the Night he heard the words "Scooby
dooby doo". After that night the show completely changed.
The dog, now called Scooby Doo, became the star or the show and
began to talk. The show took a more comical look at the Great
Dane and the teenagers solving mysteries often involving ghosts
and monsters. Finally the title was changed to Scooby Doo -
Where are You?
