| Gym Leader Battle #4: Celadon City Grass Types, Rainbow Badge Erika Red & Blue Victreebell: Level 29 Tangela: Level 24 Vileplume: Level 29 Yellow Tangela: Level 30 Weepinbell: Level 32 Gloom: Level 32 Recomendations: Fire, Flying Charmander-users finally get all thier hard work paid off by having a field day of easily gained Experience Points. Yellow-players can get Charmander on Route 24, outside of Cerulean City. Squirtle and Bubasaur trainers will be in trouble here, as Fire types are few and far between. Your second best bet is probably Flying, but Fire is the way to go, if at all possible. |
| Gym Leader Battle #5: Saffron City Psychic Types, Marsh Badge Sabrina Red & Blue Kadabra: Level 38 Mr. Mime: Level 37 Venomoth: Level 38 Alakazam: Level 43 Yellow Abra: Level 50 Kadabra: Level 50 Alakazam: Level 50 Recomendations: Red and Blue players could use Electric or Fire against Venomoth. This is probably the toughest Gym Leader battle in the game. Before the invention of the Dark type, Psychic was nearly unbeatable. The only true strategy you could use here is to either head to Route 7 and load up on Singing Jigglypuff to put the nearly invincible Psychic team to sleep; or stock up on Abra, train them to Level 16, when they learn Confusion, and try to Confuse them into attacking themselves. A long, grueling battle is ahead. |
| Gym Battle #6: Fuchsia City Poison & Bug Types, Soul Badge Koga Red & Blue Koffing: Level 37 Muk: Level 39 Koffing: Level 37 Weezing: Level 43 Yellow Venonat: Level 44 Venonat: Level 46 Venonat: Level 48 Venomoth: Level 50 Recomendations: Fire, Ground, Psychic, Flying and Electric are useful in Yellow After the last battle, Koga's team of Poison and Bug-types shouldn't be a problem. By now, you should have strong Fire, Flying, Psychic, Electric and Ground types (or at least Pokemon with attacks of those types). Yellow-players will find Koga a pushover with Pikachu and Charmander, and Red and Blue players can find plenty of Abra on Route 7, whose Psychic type attacks are super effective against Poison types. Time to do some bug squashing! |
| Gym Leader #7: Cinnabar Island Fire Types, Volcano Badge Blaine Red & Blue Growlithe: Level 42 Ponyta: Level 40 Rapidash: Level 42 Arcanine: Level 47 Yellow Ninetails: Level 48 Rapidash: Level 50 Arcanine: Level 54 Recomendations: Water, Ground Well, EVERYBODY should have a strong Water or Ground type by now. If you don't, I don't see how you made it this far through the game. Just hit his Fire types with all you've got, and you'll be able to snuff out Blaine's threat without any trouble at all. |
