Gym Leader #8: Viridian City Ground, Normal & Poison Types, Earth Badge Giovanni Red & Blue Rhyhorn: Level 45 Dugtrio: Level 42 Nidoqueen: Level 44 Nidoking: Level 45 Rhydon: Level 50 Yellow Dugtrio: Level 50 Persian: Level 53 Nidoqueen: Level 53 Nidoking: Level 55 Rhydon: Level 55 Recomendations: Just stick with the party you've had through the entire game. There's no type theme to match here. Gasp! Well, I couldn't of guessed that the final Gym Leader would ever possibly be your archenemy, the leader of the evil Team Rocket, Giovanni! This should probably be considered the "Final Boss" of the game, since Giovanni is your mortal enemy, like Mario's Bowser. There isn't really any strategy that works here, so, for drama's sake, be heroic and use the faithful Pokemon that you used to cream him with in the first battle and you should be fine. (Not to mention you should be feeling pretty happy that you've just made yourself a hero by saving all the Pokemon in Kanto.)
The Elite Four
Elite Four Battle #1: Ice Types Lorelei Dewgong: Level 54 Cloyster: Level 53 Slowbro: Level 54 Jynx: Level 56 Lapras: Level 56 Recomendations: Electric Most people say to use Fire types in this battle, but almost all of Lorelei's team of Ice types knows a Water type attack to make sure that that doesn't happen. I could say "use Grass," but then the Ice type attacks of Lorelei's team will lay the frost on them. So, the best way to go is to simply use an Electric types. Both Ice and Water types are weak to Electric.
Elite Four Battle #2: Fighting Types Bruno Onix: Level 53 Hitmonchan: Level 55 Hitmonlee: Level 55 Onix: Level 56 Machamp: Level 58 Recomendations: Water, Flying, Psychic This is probably the easiest Elite Four battle. Bruno, unlike the other members of the Elite Four, won't bother your Pokemon's stats, he just attacks. So, attack back with your Water type to deal with his two Onix and your Psychic type for the rest of his fighters, and Bruno will be down for the count.
Elite Four Battle #3: Ghost and Poison Types Agetha Gengar: Level 56 Golbat: Level 56 Haunter: Level 55 Arbok: Level 58 Gengar: Level 60 Recomendations: Psychic, Ground, Fire Psychic is pretty much the only attack that will really affect Gengar and Haunter, although any Special Attack will work. Use Ground and Fire types against the Poison types and Agetha's ghosty team will be history.
| Elite Four Battle #4: Dragon Types Lance Gyarados: Level 58 Dragonair: Level 56 Dragonair: Level 56 Aerodactyl: Level 60 Dragonite: Level 62 (!) Recomendations: Ice, Electric, Water Ummmmm . . . is now a good time to tell you that you need an Ice type for this battle? The only type Dragon is truely weak against is Ice, which isn't usually a trainer's top choice for a party Pokemon. However, if you use a water type against Aerodactyl, an Electric type against Gyarados and Dragonite, and then just try to outlast the two Dragonair, you should be able to make Lance's dragons a thing of legend- forgotten.
