Gym Leader Battle #1: Rustboro City Rock Types, Stone Badge Roxanne Geodude: Level 14 Nosepass: Level 15 Recomendations: Water, Grass Like Brock in the original games, Roxanne trains Rock type Pokemon, making Torchic choosers regret their choice. . . If you did pick Mudkip or Treecko, you can't go wrong here! If you picked Torchic (like me), you could load up on Shroomish from Route 116 and defeat Roxanne that way.
Gym Leader Battle #2: Dewford Town Fighting Types, Knuckle Badge Brawly Machop: Level 17 Makuhita: Level 18 Recomendations: Flying, Psychic Like his name suggests, Brawly uses Fightning types. His Machop and Makuhita can be quite the challenge, being powered up with Rock type moves. Your best bet is Psychic, but there aren't many Psychic types available at this point in the game, so you might want to go with Flying types for this one.
Gym Leader Battle #3: Mauville City Electric Types, Dynamo Badge Wattson Magnemite: Level 22 Voltorb: Level 20 Megneton: Level 23 Recomendations: Fire, Ground Those of us who chose Torchic won't have too many problems against Wattson's half-Steel Magnemite and Magneton. If you don't have a Fire type yet, go with a strong Ground Pokemon to ground Wattson's electricity.
Gym Leader Battle #4: Lavaridge Town Fire Types, Heat Badge Flannery Slugma: Level 26 Torkoal: Level 28 Slugma: Level 26 Recomendations: Water, Ground, Rock Flannery's Fire type Pokemon shouldn't be much of a problem, since everyone's gotten the Old Rod by now, and can all load up on Water Pokemon by stopping at any conviently located body of water. Be it ocean, lake, stream, or puddle, you can find billions of Water types to use for this battle! If not, put out Flannery's Fire Pokemon with a strong ground-type!
Gym Leader Battle #5: Petalburg City Normal Types, Balance Badge Norman Slaking: Level 28 Vigoroth: Level 30 Slaking: Level 31 Recomendations: Fighting Oooooooh . . . it's the dramatic battle. Norman, your father, uses pure Normal types. Unless you have a Fighting type in your party, this is probably going to be a tough battle. It's not his Pokemon that make the battle tough, it's the fact that he has about ten million Hyper Potions at his disposal. If you don't have a strong Fighting type, you can use pretty much any other type against Normal as they have no advantages. Just make sure it's strong, and that it can take out Daddy-O's Pokemon in a few hits. If you win, besides getting the Balance Badge, you get the right to brag that you've dethroned your father (and he won't be too happy about it . . .)
