Pinecone Press - Archive, Feb. '05
Early on Christmas Morning, 2004, our dedicated and generous Myrtle Tolliver was preparing a delicious Christmas Brunch in Pine Lakes Clubhouse.
Mary Jane Webster isour featured resident for the month of February.  Born in Camden, New Jersey, Mary Jane has criss-crossed the United States, pursuing many occupations, both as a civilian and as a member of the U.S. Air Force.  Although "retired," Mary Jane maintains a busy schedule of activities in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Prescott Victorian Society and the Red Hat Ladies.  She formats three newsletters on her computer, including the monthly printed editions of the Pinecone Press.
Myrtle's equally dedicated husband, Ken Tolliver, was setting the tables, in anticipation of a hungry crowd of Pine Lakes residents.
After everyone had eaten their fill, Ken presided over the Gift Exchange, with Ned Wheeler eagerly watching.  The Gift Exchange became quite exciting, as a musical globe changed owners four times, and several residents vied for ownership of some singing birdies..
A Chili Cookoff and Dinner was held on January 3rd.  In the photo, Myrtle is handing samples of the five chili recipes to two of the judges, Bob Jackson and Bill Steinman.  First Place winner was Curt's Famous Beanless Chili Con Carne.  Second Place went to Tolliver's Tantalizing Turkey Chili.  After the judging, about sixty residents eagerly devoured the potfulls of chili and all the side dishes.
Well, the residents of Pine Lakes had a chance to work off some of those calories during snowstorms, which lasted from Jan. 4 thru the 8th. The horn-blowing snow creature with the "Happy New Year" headdress took its station at 86 Alpine. At 117 Briar, an exuberant snow lady greeted visitors.
