Jool

Name - Joolushko Tunai Fenta Hovalis
Species - Interon
Rank/Regiment - None
First Appearance - #0303 - Self Inflicted Wounds (1) - Could'a, Would'a, Should'a

She was essentially the "new, spoiled brat" of Farscape, Jool had a difficult time, not only from fans but from the crew fitting into life on Moya.

Basically, in Die Me A Dichotomy (2.22), John went to the surgery facility to get the chip out of his brain. The nearest the surgeon Tocot got to a match to John's brain fluid to top it up during the op was the Interons. He had three frozen. And hence begins Jool's saga.

Twenty-two cycles earlier, Jool and some of her cousins were on an archaeology expedition. The kinda thing they did for fun. Two of them got sick, so Jool tried to get to a nearby town to get medical help. None of them made it - the two who were sick were taken and frozen for body parts for Tocot's facility (or some other facility maybe - maybe they've been exchanged or something). Jool was the freebie. And hence they all end up at Tocot's facility, frozen, two of them near death so they wouldn't last longer than a few microts.

It should be mentioned that, after the business with Aeryn dying, the chip removal and Scorpius being quite evil, John and his comrades left with the remaining Interon capsules, Stark having opened one to stop one of them suffering not having moved onto the next realm. The next one opened while Chiana and Jo'thee were having sex nearby, had a quick conversation with Jo'thee about what had transpired, and croaked. However, Rygel opened the third by accident, and Jool was released, really quite horrified she had spent the last twenty-two cycles frozen.

It may sound cruel, but Jool seems to be a classic obstinate, self-centred, spoiled, lazy, spiteful brat. She constantly tries to pick fights and highlight the rest of the crew's shortcomings (especially Chiana's), she complains, she comes from a world where there is no war and fighting and weapons (a hippy world perhaps?) and seems unable to do anything right. Including killing herself. In the occasion she tried (3.06 - Eat Me) she nearly killed John. Not that she hasn't tried to do that before, blaming him initially for killing her two cousins.

But for every bad thing about Jool, there's a good thing. She's intelligent, and is useful as a medic of sorts, having helped heal Crais and treat a sick Bu-lite thingy. Her scream is also useful for melting things (like razor sharp needles flying through the air towards John), while proving quite annoying unfortunately. And her hair changes colour and sheds, getting into instruments and clogging them up (which nearly caused D'Argo to get quite angry in 3.16 - Revenging Angel when she nearly caused Moya to explode!).

Okay, maybe there's more bad stuff than good.

But she has proved resourceful before, though not often). She does try to do what she wants, and often doesn't show any thought for the rest of the crew, but deep down, she does care for them, especially Pilot and Moya, Pilot who it seems she considers the most intellectual and reserved crew-member, and probably figures they are alike.

At the end of season 3 though, she got pulled down the wormhole along with Pilot, Moya and Noranti, and probed by the sub-Ancients. But shortly after she joined back up with D'Argo, who has helped her realise her full potential and her new-found friendships aboard Moya. However, she has left them behind in order to pursue her fascination of archaeology and studying history, leaving the crew early in season 4. Which is a pain, since the character of Jool - initially annoying and one which I, among many people loathed, had flourished into a magnificent addition to the crew. She will be sorely missed.
