DIGNITY AND COOPERATION
We live not only for ourselves but for others as well. We belong to a greater society where the welfare of one is as important as the welfare of all. It is our duty, therefore, to work together and dedicate our skills, talents and efforts to serving the common good, for only through unity and cooperation can we attain our goals.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Ours is a society of equals - where equality of opportunity and equality before the law must, at all costs, be upheld. We thus defend the sanctity of human rights and constitutional liberties, and stand for social justice as the fountainhead of lasting social peace.

DISCIPLINE AND SELF-RELIANCE

It is the duty of every man to develop his God-given potentials. Fulfilling this responsibility requires discipline, and enable one to become a self-reliant and productive member of society.

NATIONALISM

Every Filipino owes a deep sense of patriotic commitment to his country. It is the responsibility of every citizen to contribute and work towards the preservation and protection of national interest, the national patrimony and nation's right to stand with dignity and honor among the community of nations.

Roving Eyes Media Volunteers
KAKAMPI  ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization
The "Watchdogs of the Streets!"
In line with our slogan: "Filipino Empowerment through MEDIA Involvement!" we are pleased to announce the creation of the
KAKAMPI ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization. The KAKAMPI ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization is a group of trained Filipino volunteers coming from the ranks of bus, taxi, jeepney and tricycle drivers and operators, who are affiliated with the KAKAMPI  Transport Group.

BACKGROUND:
The idea to organize a media volunteers' group among
KAKAMPI  drivers was initially brought about by the need to stop the abuses experienced by transport drivers and operators in the hands of "kotong" policemen. The success of the volunteer taxi drivers, popularly known as VOLTAX, in giving on the spot reports in the radio encouraged the creation of the ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization.
It can serve as a deterrent for kotong cops from engaging in their illegal activities, aware that the drivers, being volunteer reporters, can not only report them to the proper authorities, but expose them in the media as well.

PROPER RECOGNITION AND ACCREDITATION BY NATIONAL AGENCIES
The national leadership of the
KAKAMPI   will exhaust efforts to inform and coordinate with proper authorities concerning the nature and presence of the ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization. We will seek proper recognition and accreditation from the agencies concerned, to give FULL legitimacy to the group's activities and operations.
Letters will be sent to all PNP Station Commanders in Metro Manila to make them aware of the group's existence, as well as its objectives. Copies of said letters, if possible, will be posted in visible places in the station HQ and in police outposts. A sample of the ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers' Organization ID will be provided for their familiarity.

ANTI-CRIME and ANTI-GRAFT & CORRUPT PRACTICES
We declare support to the efforts of the DILG and the Chief PNP in ridding the police organization of A-busado, B-astos, K-otongero at D-i kanaisnais na Pulis. We will likewise expose the persons who serve as a-ssets and e-nforcers in the i-llegal o-perations and u-nder the table activities perpetrated by these crooks in uniform. A channel of reporting will be established with the PNP HQ covering incidents of police abuses in the transport sector. The date, time and place of incidents, as well as the names of the erring policemen should be clearly stated. Reports should be properly signed and authenticated. The Kapit-Kamay ang Mamamayang
Pilipino Movement Secretariat will officially submit these to the proper authorities on a regular basis. The identities of our sources will be withheld in transmitting these reports to PNP Headquarters, the NAPOLCOM and the DILG.

On the spot abuses can also be reported immediately through PNP Txt 2920 and Patrol 117. ROVING EYES MEDIA Volunteers are required to type ROVING EYES followed by their I.D. Nos. and a confidential password for authentication purposes. They will be held liable if the reports will turn out to be unfounded or malicious. Passwords should be kept secret to avoid unauthorized use.

"Where are the youth who will dedicate their innocence,
their idealism, their enthusiasm to the good of the country?
Where are they who will give generously of their blood
to wash away so much shame, crime, and abomination?...
Where are you, young men and young women, who are to
embody in yourselves the life-force that has been drained
from our veins? ... We await you, come for we await you!"

STUDENTS as YOU trek back to school, even those among YOU who for one reason or the other find yourselves out of school, Filipino graduates as YOU scour the ads for jobs, Filipino young professionals as YOU beat the rush hours to report to work, YOU will all find yourselves confronted daily by pressing issues and concerns. They seek out answers in your minds. Some of your friends will nag you for answers, if YOU haven't yet got one for yourself.

We are in the midst of interesting times
Indeed, we are in the midst of interesting times. THE WORLD IS IN TURMOIL: there is war in Iraq, there is brewing conflict in N. Korea, and more SARS victims die each day… OUR COUNTRY IS IN PERIL: the Mindanao conflict, the dwindling economy, rising unemployment, rising criminality… ALL THESE CAN NO LONGER PASS UNNOTICED. Our lives are connected to them… Terrorist attacks might hit the streets of Metro Manila anytime, GOD FORBID!
OTHERS have gone to the streets. They SHOUT their slogans in protest. They have taken a stand. It SEEMS the right thing to do. YOU too must take a stand. But WHAT stand will YOU take?

Join the
KAKAMPI
Will YOU allow the conflicts of today to distract YOU from your studies or your jobs? Will YOU partake of the anger in the streets and blame others for your MISFORTUNES? Will YOU blame this government for our country's woes, and fight for its destruction?
Or will YOU try to seek out for deeper answers. Will YOU welcome the chance to do something positive, no matter how small or insignificant for the upliftment of our fellow Filipinos and our countrymen? Will YOU welcome a new form of social involvement that would forever leave its positive marks on YOU for having done something good for your COUNTRY and your PEOPLE?

"Let us regain our legacy to secure our destiny..."
We can never truly attain the stature of AN EQUAL in the community of nations nor achieve real development, unless we get a FIRM HOLD of our TRUE IDENTITY as a people. Unless we do so, we will forever remain lackeys of the superpowers who RULE this modern world that we live in.
In order to do so, we must reach as far back into our past, to rediscover the LEGACY of our great Malayan forebears. Like the AWAKENING of Bernardo Carpio, the realization of our TRUE IDENTITY is the only foundation left to us to find our strength as a people, COMPETE EFFECTIVELY in the world today, and thus fulfill our DESTINY.

Knowledge and records of this had been destroyed, lost and forgotten after centuries of colonial domination and control, both by the Spaniards who ruled us for 400 HUNDRED YEARS with the help of the Catholic friars, and later the Americans who successfully CONTROLLED OUR MINDS until today through propaganda and a colonial educational system.

Filipino Youth Unite!
Yes, we Filipinos are the keepers of a forgotten legacy. In our VEINS run the blood of noblemen and heroes. The Filipino YOUTH of today, still remain to be the HOPE of our Motherland. In fact, the Filipino YOUTH of today has a very SPECIAL ROLE to play in fulfilling our country's destiny.
LET US WORK for the realization of the dreams and aspirations of our parents, who sacrificed so much to offer us a bright future. LET US ALL UNITE for a common and Noble Purpose much higher than ourselves.
LEARN the ideals and aspirations of the Kapit-Kamay Ang Mamamayang Pilipino Youth Movement by heart. Familiarize yourselves with its Programs, work tirelessly for their implementation and the realization of their Goals and Objectives.

Learn the Science of PROGRAMMED & SYCHRONIZED INVOLVEMENT being taught by its Founder.
LET US UNITE and become the shining pillars in our own communities. Let us take care of the poor and the needy. Let us prepare for crisis BEFORE they affect our fellow Filipinos and our countrymen.
LET US UNITE to become a POTENT FORCE for development. Let us help BUILD a peaceful and prosperous Philippines.
Let us attain Filipino Youth Empowerment through Filipino youth involvement!

LET US NOT REST UNTIL VICTORY IS OURS!

Leaders our nation needs

By Alexander L. Lacson

When God decided to build a nation for His people, He didn't call upon them as a whole. Instead, He called on one person-Abraham- to do the job, and He made him the leader. When God wanted to deliver His people from the bondage of slavery in Egypt, He didn't talk to the people as a whole. Instead, He raised one leader-Moses-to do it. When He wanted His people to cross the wilderness on to the Promised Land-God appointed Joshua. In the Bible, each time God wanted to do something great, He always called on one person-one whom He molded to become a leader-to do the task.

But in our times, God no longer speaks directly to man the way He did during the times in the Old Testament. Today, God speaks to us indirectly-through the signs and subtle messages He sends our way.

Today, leaders are elected by the people. Every election, therefore, becomes a call to leadership. While many run for money and power, there are those who run because they feel it is their calling to serve the people. But often, it is difficult to differentiate one candidate from another.

This brings me to the point-what should we look for in a candidate? What kind of leaders does our nation need today?

Lao Tzu, a famous Chinese philosopher, said-"In choosing a leader, character is the most important quality. Intelligence and skills come second in importance." US President Theodore Roosevelt said that "intelligence without morality is a great danger to society." Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest leaders mankind has ever produced, said-"Power is best used by a leader who has strong moral character." Plato said "He who does not seek power is the most qualified to hold it."

Park Chung-hee, president of South Korea from 1961 to 1979-in his desire to build a good government in his country-used honesty as the first criteria in appointing leaders and officials to government. When he died in 1979, he left a government that was highly credible in the eyes of its people, and an economy that became one of Asia's economic miracles. Despite serving as his nation's leader for 18 years,

President Park died a poor man in 1979, with little money in the bank, and left only one property to his family-an old, small apartment that he and his wife bought in 1961, before he was installed as president.

In early 19th century, Alexander de Tocqueville, a French statesman, sought to understand America's greatness, and this is what he discovered, in his own words.

"I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there....

"I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her public school system and her institutions of learning, and it was not there.

"I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her democratic congress and her matchless constitution, and it was not there.

"Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and greatness.

"America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."

My dear countrymen, please let us make moral character-or righteousness- as our first criteria in voting for candidates this May 2007 elections. It is our obligation to do so. Aristotle said, "The salvation of the community (nation) should be the common business of good citizens."

Today, more than ever, our country needs leaders who cannot be bought; whose word is their bond; who put character above wealth; who will be honest in small things as in great things; who will make no compromises with wrong; whose ambitions are not confined to their own selfish desires. (With apologies to Charles Swindoll who penned "The World Needs Men.")

Leaders who, by their love for our country, can unite us Filipinos, wherever we may be in this archipelago or in the world, whatever our religions are, whether we are loyalists of Marcos, Cory or Erap.

Leaders who, by their sincerity and humility, can bring out the best in us as a people, so we may discard the indifference and selfishness among our rich, the despair and lack of spirit among our poor, the greed and ambition among our leaders.

Leaders who can inspire our entire nation to work as one to do great things, including sacrifices, for the good of our nation.

Leaders who value honor, whose word is their bond, whose oath of office their commitment. Leaders who cannot be bought, who will be honest in small things and in great things.

Leaders whose stand on right and wrong is as clear as black and white, whose principles and values are beyond the reach of money, who are brave and bold to do what is right.

Leaders whose love of country is greater than love for one's self and family, and who shall be willing to march into hell so that the Filipinos may have heaven on this planet.

Leaders like Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, David Ben Gurion, Lee Kuan Yew and Park Chung-hee. For the stories of these men-considered as fathers of their nations today-all point to one clear truth: that the task of building a nation begins in the heart.

Good governance is not enough. Let us work on being good citizens. Let us translate the good citizenship values derived from the Preamble of the Constitution into concrete action in order to build our nation.

We keep demanding good governance from them but have not demanded anything from ourselves. There seems to be a missing piece in the puzzle. If we demand good governance from those in public office, there must be a counterpart from our end and this is good citizenship.
