The difference between Blue version & Red version
So, actually what IS the differences between Pokemon Blue and Red version?! Actually there are only three differences between both versions:

1)Pokemon apearance
Some Pokemon are common in that version of Pokemon and the other way a round. For example, compare a Weedle and a Caterpie in both version. Weedle is in fact more easily found in Pokemon Red version but hard to be captured in Blue version. On the other hand, a Caterpie is commonly found in Pokemon Blue version but rarely found in Red version. This goes the same too for Metapod (commonly found in Blue version) and Kakuna (commonly found in Red version). Also, some Pokemon can only be found in a certain place in Blue version and can't be found in that place in Red version. For instance, a Raichu can be found in the Unknown Dungeon in Blue version but can't be found in Red version there.

2)Special Pokemon that can only be found in that certain version
In Pokemon Blue and Red version, they each have 11 special Pokemon which can only be found in that certain version only. These Pokemon are:
POKEMON BLUE VERSION
1.   Sandslash
2.   Sandshrew
3.   Meowth
4.   Persian
5.   Bellsprout
6.   Weepinbell
7.   Victreebell
8.   Vulpix
9.   Ninetales
10. Magmar
11. Pinsir
POKEMON RED VERSION
1.   Ekans
2.   Arbok
3.   Oddish
4.   Gloom
5.   Vileplume
6.   Mankey
7.   Primeape
8.   Growlithe
9.   Arcanine
10. Scyther
11. Electabuzz
The Pokemon which we listed up there can only be found in Pokemon Blue version or Pokemon Red version depending on which we catogarised it. This is one reason why it is not posible catch all 150 Pokemon unless you trade with a friend using a Game Link Cable (this does not include using gameshark or cheats).

3)Exchange rates at the Rocket Game Corner
Exchange rates at the Rocket Game Corner differs depending on which version you're playing. Here are the exchange rates:
POKEMON BLUE VERSION
1. Abra                         120CR
2. Clefairy                     750CR
3. Nidorino                    1200CR
4. Pinsir                        2500CR
5. Dratini                       4600CR
6. Porygon                    6500CR

POKEMON RED VERSION
1. Abra                        180CR
2. Clefairy                    500CR
3. Nidorina                   1200CR
4. Dratini                      2500CR
5. Scyther                     4600CR
6. Porygon                    9999CR
The Pokemon which can be redeemed at the Rocket Game Corner are also different which can be seen by looking at the list which we put up.

Overall, both versions are almost the same as it has the same characters and the same map. If you are new in playing Pokemon and can't decide which version to start off with, we recommend you to play Pokemon Blue version first. This is due to the fact that:

1. In Pokemon Blue version, there are two Pokemon in the game which can use an attck called Pay Day. The two Pokemon are Meowth and Persian. Pay Day is an attack which damages the Enemy and at the same time stealing money from the enemy. The amount of money which you get depends on the level of the Pokemon which you use and how many times the attack is used. Whats more, even if the enemy used the attack on you, you will still recieve the money if you win that trainer.

2. Most of the important Pokemon which can be exchanged at the Rocket Game Corner are mostly cheaper in Pokemon Blue version. Let's look at the rate difference between Dratini, Scyther and Pinsir in both versions. First of all, a Pinsir is cheaper in Blue version while a Scyther in more expensive in Red version. Although a Dratini is inportant too, It can be fished in the waters of the Safari Zone. That way, You don't need to waste any coins to purchase it in the game corner. You can also find Scyther in the Safari Zone and Pinsir too but you'll have a higher chance of catching a Dratini there. Another thing is the Porygon. Buying one in Blue version deffinately benefit a lot. If you were to purchase one in Red version, It will waste you 3499CR! This is enough to buy another Pinsir in Blue version! So the conclusion is overall, playing Pokemon Blue version is better than playing Pokemon Red version.
