Pokemon Blue version and Pokemon Red version
In both these versions, you are Ash, an 11 year old kid who lives in Pallet Town. You start of in your house planning to be a Pokemon Master and to catch every single Pokemon there is. Once you step out to the patch of grass in front of your town to begin your journey, Proffesor Oak calls you and tells you that wild Pokemon live in tall grass and that you'll need a Pokemon for protection. He then brings you back to his lab where your rival and three Pokemon are at there. Your rival, Gary Oak (Professor Oak's grandson), who used to play nicely with you when you were little but lately, he has became your rival. He sees you as his rival becuase you are of the same age and hieght.
Now all's that left is to choose your starting Pokemon. The three Pokemon mentioned earlier are: Bulbasaur-Of all of three Pokemon to choose from, almost everybody says that this Pokemon is the ideal starting Pokemon for beginners. It's status are all almost the same and it is suitable for begginers as it's grass atack are super effective against the first two gyms. It also has the fastest growing rate and it evolves to it's final form the earliest. One catch though, once it evolves to it's final form, it learns it's ultimate attack called Solar Beam the latest of all three Pokemon. Also, this attack is a two turn attack so it is slower when you want to attack enemy.

Squitle -This Pokemon is suitable for advanced trainers. Judging by it's looks, you can tell that it is strong in defense and yes, it's defense status is the highest fo all three Pokemon. This Pokemon is only super effective against the first gym leader. For this Pokemon's ultimate attack, it learns it at an average speed. This Pokemon also grows at an average speed. One catch also, this Pokemon's power is all to defense, so it's attack power is the lowest of all three Pokemon.

Charmander- This one's fire-type Pokemon. This one is best kept for experts to handle. This Pokemon is the thoughest to train Pokemon and needs a lot of experience to level up. This Pokemon is also not very effective against the first gym and the second gym is super effective against Charmander. One thing good about this Pokemon is that is has two ultimate attacks in which other Pokemon only has one. These two are Flamethrower and Firespin. Firespin is not very strong if you compare it with Flamethrower. The thing is, Firespin attacks two to five in a row which the enemy can't attack in that period. This Pokemon has the highest attack power and speed. Also one catch though, Flamethrower is not the ultimate fire attack while the other Pokemon learn the ultimate attack which their type is. So, you will have to wait until you get the TM (which contain Fire Blast) and teach it to Charmander.

After choosing your desired Pokemon, Gary will also choose a Pokemon (do you realise that he will always choose a Pokemon which is super effective against you?). Then, you will be forced to battle Gary while you are going out of the lab. From there, you will have to travel route by route, city through city, defeat gym leaders and collect badges, collecting tm's, hm, Pokemon and last but not least reaching the Pokemon League. Of all trainers you have to battle last at the Pokemon League, Gary has to be the one. This will probably be the thoughest battle in the game. Once you've won the Elite Four and Gary, the game doesn't end there. You still have one more aim to accomplish which is to catch all 150 Pokemon and maybe get a legendary Mew as shown on the top left of this page.
