| WRKY2 and the Overlapping of Resistance Pathways WRKY2 completely matched the genomic sequence of RPR1, a transcription factor involved in the immunity pathway of the resistance gene AY035207 (Peng, 2002). This implies that plant defense responses via different resistance genes may overlap downstream and cross interact with proteins in other pathways. For instance, multiple resistance/receptor proteins such as Xa21 can activate cascade reactions after detection of pathogenic substances. The two pathways overlap and proteins in both systems cross phosphorylate and cross activate each other to amplify the immune response. This phenomenon may provide a more efficient and swift activation of defense genes. |
