On February 23, 1969, Vaillant - le journal de Pif becomes plain and simply: PIF GADGET. The magazine starts a new numbering while keeping the first (1239/1), and starts its journey as one of the most popular cartoon magazines in Europe. Printed sometimes in more than 500,000 copies, Pif Gadget aquires a special place in the hearts of millions of children worldwhile for over three decades. Of course, there are a lot more to see and to read in Pif. Hercule, Arthur, Placid et Muzo, Leo, Surplouf, Leonard, Totoche, Capitaine Apache, Gai-Luron, Rahan, La Jungle en Folie and many other fantastic cartoons appear in this magazine, making it a melting pot of the French (and not only French) cartoonists. However, in the later part of the seventh decade the magazine starts to decline, and it is rebaptized The New Pif in 1982, and then (1986) simply PIF. Because of the market pression and other contextual circumstances the magazine comes to an end in June 1992. As a passionate, it is thus a pleasure for me to keep this character alive a little more by posting freely on-line some samples of the excellent cartoons published over the years in this magazine. |
