GRADUATION

Flags in procession - note wide-eyed small child on the right.

The Mace and the President.  Hello, Central Casting, I need some Academics ...

Me, in procession.  The blue and white is the honour cord for Pi Gamma Mu.  I also have a pin signifying I signed a pledge to improve the social and environmental aspects of companies I work for, and the red rose for Socialism.

Which cost $20 and which I bought at a posh downtown boutique, which might defeat the purpose.  But it was a small, independent boutique (not worker-owned, but not a chain ... baby steps, baby steps).

Supposedly, if you step on the plaque between Matriculation and Graduation, you won't finish your degree on time.  I stepped on the damn thing once, and managed to get my diploma in four years - Amanda jumped on it every time we passed it, and she did too.  But Trinity is impoverished in terms of tradition and ritual, so I decided to keep this one.

The inscription is Latin, saying, "let not the man who takes up arms boast as much as he who has laid his down," or words to that effect.  It's from Teddy Roosevelt, from a speech at Trinity.

Michele.  Orange and out of focus, but looks happy, so I put it in.

She's now working as a case manager for the homeless in Troy, New York, and planning her wedding.

Me and Lyah on a cannon from the U.S.S. Constitution, and I couldn't look any ditzier if I tried.

The Three Musketeers.

Or stooges.

(L to R: me, Grace, Marion - can also be found on family photos page)

COLIE AND PAT'S WEDDING

June 19, 2004

Nicole and Patrick Mastan!!

Jillian Rutman and Adam Goldberg.

The reception site.

I was a half hour late to the wedding, as I got stuck in a horrible traffic jam, where the speedometer didn't go over 5 for an hour.  I didn't get out of East Haven until 1:30.

And then I stood around the reception site for an hour, waiting for the bridal party to finish getting photographs taken.  Turns out that Michele and Matt and Jude were hanging out at the hotel, but I didn't know that.

Joe!  And his laugh.

Camille.  Before she started dancing.

Colie as the statue on the cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

The first dance.  I cannot for the life of me remember the song, but they were wonderful to watch.

Me and Chris.  Whom my mother thinks looks like Tony Blair.  Not seeing it, personally, except for shared propensity for blue ties.

An incredibly overexposed shot of me and Michele.  I swear she has a nose in real life.

Left to right: Jude, Jillian, Adam, Pat, Colie, Matt, Michele, Chris, Me, Eliza, Joe.

This was taken at about 11 p.m., which is why we all look so spaced out and Colie looks like she's about to keel over.
